The GMA600 is the GPU that will appear in Moorestown, Oaktrail (Z6xx-series Atom) and Tunnel Creek (E-series Atom) platforms that are feeding in later this year and during 2011. It’s a beefed-up GMA500 (400Mhz instead of 200Mhz) with, in some cases, hardware accelerated video recording and the core design is by Imagination. At their booth at Intel’s IDF last week they were showing off some of the capabilities of the GMA600 and GMA500 that appears in the Menlow platform. We hope that this sort of capability reaches ultra-mobile devices soon and that the AppUp developers can start to take advantage of it because it looks fantastic!

given the mess that is drivers related to the GMA500, the combo of this and meego worries me.
As long as there are Windows drivers than I’m good. I don’t see any of these other OS’s taking off any time soon anyway.
I’ve seen SGX535 demos on other OSes, and I believe part of the reason Moorestown demos showed significantly better Quake 3 performance is due to the Operating System. Whatever they are doing with windows and the GMA 500 makes it real slow.
Though even with that + 50% better performance they’ll only be on par with GMA 3150.

Chippy, I believe you were at this event:

And buyers are still waiting to see the kind performance that devs promised when the GMA500 was released.
I have so much negative experience with the intel GMA500 that just thinking about it gets me worked up. I cannot begin to tell you – as a buyer of a device using the GMA500 – how angry I am with Intel and the rest of the parties involved for not delivering on their promises.
Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice…
Sorry Intel, not this time.
I know I know. It’s in the back of my mind every time I see a demo like this!
Told you it got me worked up, can’t even think straight! That should have read:
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice…
/sigh
