Heads up! If you’re interested in a mobile netbook with a touch more oomph! than your average Atom N450 based device you’ll want to tune in here over the next few days because the Samsung N350 dual-core Atom netbook is on its way.
The N350 is one I’ve had my eye on as a possible upgrade to my trusty Gigabyte Touchnote so it will be coming with me to Dublin and the Meego conference next week where it will get a good workout. Before that though, we need to do a live review with it and JKK and I are planning to get busy with it at 2100 CET (Berlin) on Friday. As always with the Friday sessions, bring a bottle of your favorite tipple!
I’ll update here or on twitter @chippy with any changes to the plan.
Update: Session is over. I’ll be writing up the results of the testing for Sunday14th – Summary: It’s a high quality netbook but we only got 3.5hrs (estimated based on 2hrs of tests) of battery life. A six-cell battery is available for a rather shocking 130 Euros. The total weight with the 6-cell would be about 1200gm.

too bad the NF310 is so ugly or i might pick 1 up, wish the N350 had a WXGA screen like its cousin does.
Funny. I find it ugly too!
Me too! Sort of. It depends on which part of the aesthetics of the nf310 you’re talking about. If you’re talking about the form, it’s one of the most beautiful clamshell case designs that I’ve seen. I really like it. If you’re talking about color schemes. ICK! Dark bezel + light lower chassis + dark keys = UGLY. At least it’s not covered in crocodile skin…

1000grams? Could this be part of a nutritional breakfast?

Hi Chippy,
my NF310 arrived 1 week ago so I’ve been playing with it for some time and I really like it (above all its 1366×768 great screen!): I think I’ve found a good replacement for my trusty EeePC901GO (even if this Samsung is not as Linux-friendly as it was the EeePC, at least for the moment…)
I’m curious about the main differences (pro&cons) between the NF310 and the N350 so I will carefully follow your live sessions!
it´s ennoying. the manufacturers will never combine all the wanted features like hd-display, smart looks, lightweight, great battery-life and reasonable price! for not to canibilize the sub-notes! uaagh!!!
sergio: great screen? i read of low contrast and narrow viewing-angle. not true?
Really I can’t complain about the screen (but maybe I’m not too demanding…), but if you look at reviews like the one at:
http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/samsung-nf310.aspx
there is no mention about bad viewing-angle or low contrast…
Where did you get the bad news about the screen?
just one question in advance: is the keyboard design also as terrible as the one of the new HP mini 5103’s? the writing is very poor, the secondary functions are in dark blue on black – totally unrecognizeable, it is a nightmare, key fonts in general are to tiny, too small. a real shame for HP. and the most unlikely feature is a shiny, mirroring/reflective keyboardpanel ……
not sure why Chippy & the gang are so overly excited about the N350, the original Seashell 1008HA was less than an 1″ & 2.4lbs & managed about 5 – 6hr battery life. i’m also guessing that now the battery life numbers are coming in for the N350 they are much less excited.
honestly, in the world of super thin netbooks it doesnt seem like alot of progress has been made in the last year. yes they went dual core but that just seems like Cost of Living inflation to me (in otherwords they had too).
