Viliv X70 on Oaktrail makes Big Step Forward

Posted on 06 January 2011, Last updated on 06 January 2011 by

I have been predicting a 20-30% all-round improvement in battery life with Oaktrail. I might be wrong. Viliv are showing their new Oaktrail-based X70 ultra mobile PC and it’s coming in at 420gm, with 6.5hr battery life. The previous X70 was about 650gm so that’s a great improvement. I’m hearing the same message all over.

It appears that all Oaktrail devices are going to be available earliest in March 2011 and the X70 is no different. I’ve got a video for you later so stick around for that.

Specs are shown in the image below.

So ummmm…What’s up with the video? Videos for the Viliv X7 and X10 and for the Dell Streak 7 but no love for the Viliv X70? I am shocked. SHOCKED and outraged! Nah, not really. I know you’re working hard out there in Vegas and I can’t wait to see what else you report on. Thanks for the info, Chippy. :-)

X70 Windows its USB, SD slot, video output (HDMI), all are in body (not a dock), looks like not bad.

Unfortunately, its battery is a non-interchangeable way.
Also, USB port is only a mini type, not a convenient way. at least it ought to provide a second USB port.

I would never buy a tablet — if it brought a non-interchangeable battery way.

By the time the battery died you’d be ready to move onto a new tablet with far superior technology anyway.

I was hoping for a Viliv N5 upgrade or a slider version. Too bad Ocosmos cancelled their slider device. I have to have a keyboard and mouse for my UMPCs. Tablet only devices just don’t cut it.

It might look like the N5 will be my last UMPC. I’ll be buying ultraportables from now on since devices with screens greater than 5″ are too big for my pocket. I might as well get more power if I’m carrying a bag anyway.

well for a umpc this opens the question: what s more preferable?
the same weight as before, but extended battery life gained or less weight but the same battery time. personally i opt for the extended battery life.
mobile devices need endurance weight comes second in place.

6.5hrs if true is great… at that point i’d rather go slimmer and lighter than add a bulkier battery. It’s only when you are at 4-5 do you really wish you had more juice.
