What do you want in a Windows based tablet PC? A faster CPU, optical mouse and buttons, glossy and matt screen, Bluetooth 3.0 + HS, USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet and docking station would be nice right?
The Gigabyte S1080 lacks only the digistiser but even without it its the highest spec tablet I’ve seen at 10″ and 900gm.
I’ve got a video coming up later but don’t panic, this won’t be available until May!

It’s nice to see that more pre-announced slates may be coming with optical mice or some form of off-screen pointing device. As many people know by now, research in human computer interaction has shown over and over that a finger-only touchscreen is a usability nightmare. If the primary display is also the primary input device, as in the case when there’s just one screen, then it’s just an inferior setup to a more traditional cursor based system or that of a dual screen device. Once again, this is just from a usability stand point, which may clash with your personal opinion. In fact, psychologists have known for decades that the human mind is better at operating through the metaphor of controlling a cursor/marker/character than it is at trying to interact with a virtual world directly. These are the reasons why in most videos games you are controlling a character that is interacting with the game environment rather than trying to manipulate the game environment directly. Until operating systems like Android and iOS address this and the hardware companies supply alternatives input and display paradigms, a Windows 7 slate with an offscreen pointing device will continue to dominate in terms of usability. I know this sounds foreign to people who assume that popular always means better and therefore Windows 7 slates and tablets must be the worst, but look at the most popular cars and restaurants in your country. Do they really provide the best food and driving experiences? Probably not.
A keyboard that doesn’t suck. That’s what I want.
It’s multitouch with handwriting recognition, for some, that doesn’t suck. What sort of keyboard are you looking for. Maybe I can help.
I thought it needed an active digitizer for handwriting recognition…did I miss something?
Now make it have a 5 inch screen with the same specs (hey I can dream).
