I took a step outside my usual 10 inch, 1KG zone today by buying an 11.6 inch notebook. I explain the reasons in an earlier post so I wont go over it again but suffice to say, there are good reasons for buying it.
I’ll be writing more about the device in relation to the AMD Brazos platform and its suitability for ultra mobile work and I’ll also be covering the device in a video-editing-related post. On that topic though, be aware that the video below was shot on a Nokia N8 phone and edited and rendered on the S205 in 720p
So far I’m impressed with the build quality, screen and keyboard (all very, very important) but not so impressed with the E-350 CPU performance. I expected more.
I’ll be doing more testing over the next few days so watch out for my review notes and impressions soon. In the meantime, enjoy the video.

Video quality was pretty decent (apart from some white balance “flickering” of background).
However audio quality was somehow dissapointing. I know camera pro has extensive audio settings, might be worth tweaking it.
I tried a headset on the N8. It works! There are lots of options.
Hi,
I ran Crystal mark for the first time in my life.
The graphics tests are very psychedelic.
I ran the tests on my Desktop PC, just for fun. To see how big the difference between a netbook and stationary PC is.

Why you did not choose the Thinkpad X120e instead of S205? Can you compare the two?
Good questions. Would also like to know the differences.
Crystalmark points would also be nice. In the above post I see its not for the S205
I have a follow-up post that should be ready tomorrow. Crystal mark scores will be included.
Lenovo does not sell the Thinkpad X120e in Germany.
And the x120e is not worth buying it. To many problems. Read in the German Thinkpad forum.
Audio stutter, display flicker, Bluetooth missing, etc.
The Bobcat core in the E-350 is 40-50% faster per clock in single threaded applications than an Atom. Multi-threading performance might be similar due to Hyperthreading on the Atom.
Do you notice a difference in performance?
I ran CrystalMark on the Core i7 2600K system. 3.4GHz with X25-M running on the processor graphics. Got 230k. 66k for both ALU and FPU.
Scores on the Core i7 2820QM mobile system with X25-M G2 and HD 3000 Graphics.

Man, the mobile chip is scoring almost like my desktop system. Time to go Notebook.
Be interesting to see how this cpu compares to the c50 dual cores you tested on the nb550d and the 522
I second that
Steve, get an SSD! i have the HP pavilion dm1 with basically the exact same specs. i replaced the 500GB drive with an SSD and boy does that make a difference.
i had the lenovo thinkpad x100e also with AMD and that one was one of the worst laptops ever i used.
was a bit skeptical about the new AMDs but their fantastic.
Yup. Did you see my ssd upgrade on the 522. The same will happen to the s205.
Do you know anything about the configurations of the Lenovo S205?
I think about an UMTS version without windows or with a smaller HDD.
The lenovo HP is crap, they only have some marketing text and pictures. But nothing to configure it or see detailed specs.
Even the Picture is wrong, it shows a Laptop with a DVD drive.
