Sony Vaio alternatives

Another well specified clamshell-style UMPC. Slightly too wide for thumb typing but wide enough for a touch-typing experience. 1.8Ghz, 2GB RAM and SSD helps with speed and this should make quite a rugged travel computer too.

P11S1E availability in June (Europe)With 64 GB SSD. Sony state 'up to' 5.5hr battery life. 2.0, 2.1 and 1.6Ghz version available in Japan.

Sony Vaio alternatives

HP Slate 2, 8.9 inch, 690 grams (1.52 lbs)
The HP Slate 2 is a Windows 7 Tablet powered by an Intel Atom Z670 clocked at 1.5 GHz. It has up to 64GB mSATA Storage and should last with its 2-cell (30WHr) battery up to 7.5 hours. With the possibility to add the Tablet to the optional dock one can have 2 more USB 2.0 ports plus the ability to extend the screen via HDMI to another device.
Sony Tablet S, 9.4 inch, 595 grams (1.31 lbs)
The Tablet S features a screen technology that Sony calls "TruBlack" and they say it enhances colors and darkens the blacks. Chippy got his hands on the Tablet S at IDF and immediately noted that the screen looks very good. The Tablet S is quite light at 595 grams and the design should make it easier to hold in one hand than tablets of a similar weight.
Cisco Cius, 7.0 inch, 522 grams (1.15 lbs)
Netbook Navigator Nav 7, 7.0 inch, 590 grams (1.3 lbs)
A 7" UMPC built on Atom fills a requirement for a number of markets but take note, this is the older Atom platform. (Z5XX) with the slower GPU (200Mhz compared to 400Mhz on the Z6xx series.) It's strange to see a device like this without any form of video out. The rear-mounted touch panel and mouse buttons should improve Windows usage although we would want to test that before recommending a buy. Weight seems acceptable - 550gms
LG G-Slate, 8.9 inch, 621 grams (1.37 lbs)
Toshiba Libretto W100 (W105-L251 PLW10U-00201V ), 7.0 inch, 699 grams (1.54 lbs)
A new and interesting design from Toshiba. Dual capacitative touchscreens and some well-integrated keyboard software make this a very interesting choice in the UMPC sector. Heat could be a problem and battery life with the small battery down to 2hrs. High-performance CPU should drive Windows 7 touch and muti-touch features well. Premium price.
HP Slate (500), 8.9 inch, 700 grams (1.54 lbs)
Great progress for small form-factor slates. The 1.86Ghz CPU coupled with 2GB of RAM and, if fast, the 64GB SSD should drive WIndows 7 well. Capacative and Digitiser screen, 680gm and a great price means this is a leading UMPC right now.
Kohjinsha SK3 (SK3KX06GA), 7.0 inch, 720 grams (1.59 lbs)
Viliv X70 EX, 7.0 inch, 660 grams (1.46 lbs)
Samsung Q1EX, 7.0 inch, 648 grams (1.43 lbs)
