Hey, that title kind of rhymes doesn’t it?
OK, just a quick update about two confirmed software packages for the UMPC/Origami devices. MovieLink has partnered up with Microsoft to offer videos-on-demand to ultra mobile PC users, while Sling Media has software to allow users to watch TV on their Ultra-Mobile PC’s. Movielink partners with Microsoft
Movielink, a broadband video-on-demand download service, announced they were teaming up with Microsoft to offer premium content to the new Ultra-Mobile PC devices.
From Bill Mitchel, president of the Mobile Platforms Division at Microsoft:
“Movielink is an ideal content partner for ultra mobile PC devices, as it provides a large library of high-quality video content on demand,” said Bill Mitchell, vice president of the Mobile Platforms Division at Microsoft Corp. “ultra mobile PC users will benefit from the ability to download their favorite movies directly to their ultra mobile PC on demand, making it easier than ever before for them to be entertained wherever they go.”
It remains to be seen how integrated Movielink will be with the Tablet XP edition on the ultra mobile PC devices. My bet is that it will be integrated pretty tightly to offer convenience and familiarity to users. I’m sure there will be many other similar services popping up as these mobile devices get closer to launch.

Sling Media support for Ultra-Mobile PC’s
SLing Media has put out a press release, detailing how thier Slingbox product will allow users to watch their home TV programming on their UMPC’s wherever they are in the world. The product works by redirecting the TV stream from your home cable, satellite, or DVR, to the user’s PC.
The customized SlingPlayer, that has been developed to run on an Ultra-Mobile PC, has been optimized to leverage the touch screen and resolution the OS will provide. Sling Media is claiming this will be available in April for use on the first-generation UMPC’s.
