First user reports of Q1b: Over 4 hours battery life.

Posted on 17 October 2006, Last updated on 16 March 2019 by

The first Q1b owners are starting to share the good news about this VIA based Samsung Q1.

There were three unique selling points announced at the Berlin IFA.

  • 30% Brighter Screen.
  • WiBro/UMTS built in.
  • 5 hours battery life..

So what are the users saying?

Check the Origamiproject forums out because there’s a report of 3.5 hours battery life. Not exactly 5 hours is it. But then you read that it was with a 70% full battery reading. This is what the people want! We’re waiting for the first real test result but so far, this is looking very good.

The same owner reports that ‘the screen is very bright’ which also alludes to the fact that it’s got a better screen than the Q1.

What you don’t get on the Q1b is the Ethernet port and the stereo speakers. Losing one speaker is quite a disadvantage in my opinion as the Q1b always had a good reputation for audio quality through the speakers.

And the best news – its being offered in the U.S. for less than the Q1 at the moment. ($899 against $999 on CDW.) Expect the Q1 price to drop soon though. There are no availability reports for UK and the rest of Europe yet.

Hopefully we’ll see some hands on reports and some reviews from these lucky users.

Terrific! 3:30 battery life with 70% charged!

Then I’d like to see how long can it run under heavy task loading. I guess it can run up to 3~3.5 hours with wirless in the best condition.

This info really push me more to try to get a Q1b.

I got my Q1b late last week and it is great… I love it… it has above average speed (though could be a little better) and just looking at my UMPC right now I have 3:41 hours with 85% and WiFi on, though with a dimmed screen and max battery settings… i would recommend it

    If Q1B uses a 6 cell battery, maybe it’s the 1st 8-hour usage UMPC!

Hope there will come more and more reviews about Q1B!

And hopefully it will be available in Europe as well… Or does anyone know a shop that ships overseas as well?
