To compliment the Carputer day on Carrypad, I’ve just spotted that GottaBeMobile have a post about the Streetdeck carputer software. Actually I’ll be honest. It looks like they posted it before I even woke up this morning. We’re on the same track today chaps. “StreetDeck Will Get You Down The Road” Steve /Chippy. View details of all Ultra Mobile devices in the ultra mobile PC product database. From N800 to Flybook V5, its all there!

Its Friday and I don’t expect much big news today so I want to take the time to look at the Carputer / CarPC market with three posts on the subject. I’ve had some first hand experience of using a ultra mobile PC in a car (here’s a series of posts I made previously about the Vega as a Carputer) and I found the experience exciting to say the least. I hate my old 6-CD player (12 tracks on a disk is so 90’s darling) and having access to […]

OnlyUMPC.com have bought/acquired/pilfered an ASUS R2H. What do they think? ‘Awesome!’ I guess we’ll see some testing from them soon but in the meantime, they’ve posted a set of images. On the image below, I’ve taken the liberty of overlaying another images of an R2H. You can see the differences in battery size between the European and U.S. versions. The U.S. version comes with a 48W/hr battery. (Model No. R2H-BH059T) The European version comes with the 24W/hr battery. (Model No. R2H-BH039T) The ASUS takes about 12W average drain which is […]

This looks a bit more like it. The so-called Nokia 870 (image originally from this forum at Internet Tablet Talk. Since removed at Nokia’s request.) No-one appears to have any idea what’s going on inside this thing but if its got decent processor, a 800×480 4″ screen (looks smaller to me.) and a slide-out keyboard the S-Xgen is going to die a very quick death. Maybe its got Symbian s/w on it. It might make better commercial sense for Nokia. Could it be a communicator replacement? In that case it […]

I’ve just been over to the Origamiproject forums where they’ve kicked-off a series of polls. I like the forum. Its free-running and there’s a few members of the Origamiproject team that are regular contributors. I asked them to set up a poll on “who’s doing the best job of promoting Ulta Mobile PCs” and then I realised that they might not run that one. So I’m running it myself! On the Carrypad front page you’ll find a poll asking the all-important question. Click through below and you’ll find the poll […]

TI’ve been putting the ultra mobile PC sizes into the database today (now available along with some model numbers on the product portal.) and I thought it would be a good idea to compare them. There’s a nice size comparison site called sizeasy that I’ve used to generate a 3D view of some of the popular UMPCs. Here’s that huge 20″ Acer Aspire 9800 ‘notebook’ and a Sony UX280P “WOW. I wish I had a small one like that” Steve /Chippy. View details of all Ultra Mobile devices in the ultra […]

You’re not a ultra mobile PC nutter until you void the warranty. (I’m a nutter. So is Kevin Tofel and so is Hugo Ortega.) Mind you, Justin O’Dea does run ProPortable.com, an ASUS reseller, so I guess he’s probably got good support contacts. He’s earned his company its ‘I’m a ultra mobile PC nutter’ stripes by taking the R2H apart and posting the details over at the NotebookReview forum. He’s also given me permission to repost it all here so I’ll say thanks in advance and hand over to Justin. Oh one […]

I’m losing interest in the DualCor. Not because of the product but because of the delays and the unclear PR messages. If others share my opinion then it not good news for DualCor. Two weeks ago, GottaBeMobile published a statement from Rob Howe at DualCor saying that the DualCor v1 would not be released. Earlier this week, Judies diary published this: I just received a brand new DualCor cPC with updated hardware and software. I believe that this is considered version 0.9, which means that the release model should follow shortly. […]
