As promised by a number of German websites, the R2H has started shipping. The Q1b appears to be ready to ship in the U.S. too. I’m in the lucky position of knowing someone that should get their ASUS R2H tomorrow so I’ll be driving up to Cologne with a camera to ruin their first evening with the device. Sorry Ian! As for the R2H in North America, there’s no clear information. All we’re hearing is ‘before Christmas.’ which is a shame as people that have waited since the R2H announcement in March are […]

I’ve just learnt something new about using touch on a ultra mobile PC thanks to Hugo Ortegas excellent two-part introduction videos for people (like me) who are introduced to touch extensions on Windows XP through the purchase of a UMPC. Keyboards are nice and I’m very pro-keyboard due to my technical background, left handedness and very bad handwriting. I believe that there is never a point in my mobile computing day at which taking the pen out of the dock and handwriting on the screen is faster than pecking at an on-screen keyboard […]

In the last few days I’ve seen the lowest online retail price for the Samsung Q1 Ceegoo (NP-Q1-V000 – 512MB/40) drop by about 10%. (about 100 Euro.) The lowest price of the Samsung Q1 Casomii (NP-Q1-M000 – 1024/60GB) has also dropped around 10% from 1400 Euro to 1250 Euro. Either the introduction of the R2H has killed Q1 sales (and why not, its pretty much the same on the inside with GPS and web cam and more thrown in for much less money!) or retailers are getting ready for the Samsung Q1b (NP-Q1B-V000 […]

It turns out that the naked investigation yesterday was worth it. If you’ve got an i7210 or i7209 (unconfirmed on the i7209) you should have a Gigabit Ethernet port on the dock and not a 100mbps port as advertised. Adam, a Carrypad reader, has kindly confirmed my findings. As the disk is only capable of about 12-15MBps (up to 120mbps) write speed, you’re not exactly going to flood the network but if you’ve got a GigE card on your server and a GigE switch, you should see some nice transfer rates across […]

For the last few days I’ve been following and conversing with a group of R2H owners in the UK who have just found out that their devices don’t include Bluetooth. According to the response from ASUS, there are only a small number of R2H devices in the UK (6 according to one report) but if you’re about to buy one in the UK at the moment, please double check the specs before you buy. [Update – the model number of the R2H without Bluetooth is: R2H-BH040T. The model being sold in […]

Thanks to GottaBeMobile, there’s an update on the the DualCor cPc available. It looks like they’ve dropped the original model due to feedback and will be moving forward with a new design both internally and externally. Because of the changes in the market place, technological advances, and customer feedback on version1, we will not be shipping version 1. We are currently looking forward to version 2, which we are looking at shipping in the spring 2007 time frame. More info at the GottaBeMobile site. Steve. Technorati tags: dualcor, cpc, umpc View […]

Its been a real eo day here. I’ve been working on the review (expect that in a few days) but I keep getting pulled deeper and deeper into it. This is how deep I got today: After a good few hours messing with the device I can honestly say that the warranty is invalid. What did I find out though? Well, the reason for taking the device apart was to see exactly what audio solution was implemented. The Intel 915GMS has a 7.1 channel HD audio core but that’s […]
