A quick scan for Samsung q1b news this morning reveals that the Q1b might be available in less than 2 weeks. The details are from CDW where it also shows the Pentium-M based Q1 being in stock. This price, however, does not seem to include the UMTS/Cellular capability which was shown as an option on the previous marketing info we saw. I’m guessing that the European market will get the cellular data option to start with. Other important features of the Q1b include a claimed 5 hours battery life and a […]

I’ve just read an interesting news item on Panasonic NNP battery technology which has lead me to do a bit of study on current Li-iOn battery tech this afternoon. (Original news item here in German) Apparently Panasonic presented an improved battery technology at the IDF that could help mobile devices within the next 2 years. I’ve read a lot of articles about new battery technology and most seem to be presenting completely new techniques and chemistry. The problem with changing the technology is that the cost of moving to the new tech […]

Via jkOnTheRun I’ve just read about some cool working spaces which includes Kathy Sierras vintage trailer. Earlier this year I was thinking about a similar project – an office in a mini van. The problem was that I came to a dead-end because of the lack of inspiration I got from some of the boring boring touring vans there are out there. Apart from being an inspirational design, it needs to have: Power for PC and lighting.Solar and wind power generators (why not!)Toilet.Possible overnight capability for two adults and a child.Gas cooker.Good sound system. Can […]

Back from the UK this evening and its time to get back into journal updates. The best way to get back into it is to just dive into some of the news items I’ve picked out. ASUS R2H Firstly, the ASUS unboxing images. It looks great doesn’t it? The packaging and contents are well thought out. The included keyboard and stand are a real bonus. It seams to have got people more excited about the R2H then ever before! Secondly, a comment was left on the journal here from someone that has got […]

Just in case you haven’t seen the unboxing pictures yet, check out Mobile01 or SlashGear for the details. It really does look nice and as long as those buttons work well and there are no nasty battery life suprises, its going to take first position in the ultra mobile PC league for consumer oriented devices. German resellers are now quoting 11th Oct for the first deliveries and I’m badgering ASUS like mad to get one ASAP! Steve / Chippy. View details of all Ultra Mobile devices in the ultra mobile […]

You want a stylish, Ultra-Mobile, notebook with a full suite of wireless and fixed connectivity options? If so, you haven’t got much choice. Its a niche market filled by only two or three Ultra Mobile devices. The Flybook V33i is one of them (anyone care to guess what other devices I have in mind?) and I’ve just had the privilege of testing one for four days. Its well engineered from both the physical and software points of view and that’s why its not cheap. Its got a convertible screen, user-swappable hard drive (2.5″) and […]
