Update Jan 2007: Medion MD RIM 1000 is being shown at CES. News here.
Following Engadget’s coverage of the Arima ultra mobile PC story, there has been some confusion about whether it has internal WiFi and Bluetooth.
Having found out that the Arima ultra mobile PC is possibly going to be launched under the Medion brand, its clear that the WiFi and Bluetooth USB solutions are internal, just like on many other UMPCs.
So, to re-cap, here’s a fantastic looking specification line-up. My comments in red.
- CPU- VIA ULV C7-M, 1.0GHz FSB. As per the eo v7110 and Q1b
- Memory – DDR2-533, 512MB on board. Good enough for XP, expandable to 1GB.
- Chipset – VX700. As per Q1b.
- GPU – Integrated in VX700, UniChrome Pro core
- Media card controller – /SD-IO/MMC. A useful addition. I find SD card more useful than CF these days.
- Wireless LAN – 802.11b+g
- Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
- LCD – 6.5 inch TFT, WVGA (800×480), with LED backlight.
- HDD – 1.8 inch, 5 mm high, 4200rpm, 20/30/40GB
- Battery – 2 cells Lithium Polymer battery, 3900mAHr, total: 28.86 watts. Sounds like specially made batteries. 20% more capacity than an e0v7110.
- Battery Life – 4~5hrs
- Speakers – Mono, 0.6watts. Shame its not stereo.
- Web Cam – VGA resolution, USB I/F, for Video over IP.
- Dimension – 190mm x 120mmx 27.9mm, 7.48 inch x 4.72 inch x 1.1 inch
- Weight – 680g, 1.496lbs. That’s very light.
- USB x 2
- Audio jack x 2: Mic-in and HP out
- VGA x 1. The Q1b is missing this!
- Docking x 1. Excellent. Use it as a desktop PC just like I do with the i7210.
The Medion version of this was said to have GPS built in and a DVB-T receiver.
When you add the keyboard and mouse pointer you have a very complete UMPC. If 3D graphics is not your game, the Medion ultra mobile PC could be the best choice yet.
My price guess: 900 Euro. Why? Medion often sell in very large quantities through Aldi in Germany and pricing is ALWAYS competitive.
