Update Jan 2007: Medion MD RIM 1000 is being shown at CES. News here. Following Engadget’s coverage of the Arima ultra mobile PC story, there has been some confusion about whether it has internal WiFi and Bluetooth. Having found out that the Arima ultra mobile PC is possibly going to be launched under the Medion brand, its clear that the WiFi and Bluetooth USB solutions are internal, just like on many other UMPCs. So, to re-cap, here’s a fantastic looking specification line-up. My comments in red. CPU- VIA ULV C7-M, […]

Its time to go through my bloglines account and clear all the items I’ve marked for attention.Things have really begun to pick up in the ultra mobile PC reporting space and I hope the resellers are seeing similar increases in activity. The Christmas promotional push coupled with pre-CES news and a set of new devices has sparked some long-needed attention. First up on the list is the jkOnTheRun website. They reported on a very interesting bootable Windows Embedded method. this is supported in the new feature pack. I often use […]

When prices start to drop, its often because the retailers know something that the consumers don’t. I’ve just had a look at some Flybook prices here and i’m seeing big drops on the lowest prices for some of the low-end models. The V23i, for example, a 600Mhz Celeron convertible with Gigabit ethernet, 1024×600 screen 80GB/512MB, GPRS cellular modem and Windows XP pro for under 1300 Euro. Thats a really good price. Prices for the high-end HSDPA (1.8mbps) capable model are stable. Information is from the German language Geizhals.at Steve /Chippy […]

PC Watch a Japanese website, have just published a review of the KOHJINSHA SA1F00A UMPC. Lets take a look at some images first and then see if we can get some meaning out of the translation. Click images to enlarge. Appears thick. 25mm at the thinnest point. Screen folded into tablet mode. User-upgradeable RAM. Good. QWERTY keyboard. Here are some points I’ve picked up from the translation. Feels heavy because the size is small. Sufficient quality LED backlit screen. 16.8 mm keyboard pitch Mouse pad is small. 500Mhz AMD […]

[Update: Actually, that should have been “Medion MD RIM 1000.” My error.] I didn’t spot that. The Medion and Arima devices are the same. Arima UM650UV1 UMPC Medion RIM 1000 UMPC More info on the Medion RIM 100 here. Specs were rumored to include DVB-T (indicates a European release) and GPS built-in. I’m guessing that if they squeezed in the DVB-T and GPS, they wouldn’t have left out BT and WiFi. We have the brand but i’m still not sure about the model name!!! Yesterdays Arima news. Thanks to ‘can’t […]

OnlyUMPC have spotted that the SODIFF website has been updated. Thanks Chaps. I’d almost forgotten about this one. I would add it to the watchlist but for the moment, I don’t think one is going to appear anywhere outside Korea. It seems to be built purely for the Wi-Bro market out there. Like the SPH-P9000, its only wireless connectivity option seems to be via cellular data. It might seem silly to leave out Wifi but if you’ve got a few Mbps at hand all the time, why bother with […]

This looks very much like a concept device but Aving.net has posted images of a CD-sized tablet/umpc device presented by Fujitsu at CEATEC 2006. There are no specifications so this looks like it could be a long way away. Nice consumer-oriented design though. Steve /Chippy via OnlyUMPC.
