ASUS R2H sales top 40,000 units – Digitimes

Posted on 27 November 2006

According to Digitimes, Asustek have sold more than 40,000 units since the R2H launch in September. The sources attributed the better-than-expected sales of the R2H to Asustek targeting the automotive-use market instead of the usual notebook market. This is good news for UMPCs in general. The more the devices circulate, the more people get to see them and understand what they are about although I haven’t really seen any automotive market targeting. It would be interesting to get some Samsung ultra mobile PC sales figures. I guess that sales will […]

LG C1 will really fly.

Posted on 24 November 2006

The LG C1 convertible tablet PC is going to be an absolute dream ultra-mobile device for many people. When it appeared on in my RSS reader through jkOnTheRun I marked it as news. Unfortunately I never got round to writing anything about it. At 10.6″ it was just outside my definition of a UMPC. I’m really glad I saw it today though. Having heard about the interest that convertible tablet PCs are getting from some of the resellers and manufacturers and listening to rave reviews about the P1610, I think […]

Sony say UX might come to Europe.

Posted on 23 November 2006

I met with Sony today at the World of Mobility expo in Cologne and asked them straight. Is the Sony UX coming to Europe? They say it might during the middle part of 2007 but there’s no guarantee.  Great. Thanks Sony. I’m not sure that they need to bother really. By mid 2007 the Ultra Mobile PC landscape will have changed considerably. Steve.   Technorati tags: Sony UX, UMPC View details of all Ultra Mobile devices in the ultra mobile PC product database. Piccies of the Pepperpad 3 in black.

Posted on 22 November 2006

This is the colour I wanted. Humph! Pocketables have really horrible pictures of the Pepperpad 3 in black. Don’t go and look. ;-) I’m finishing off the Pepperpad review at the moment. Was going to post it tomorrow but I realised that 70% of my guests will be thinking about other things. If that’s you, enjoy the turkey and mad Friday! Pepperpad 3 spec sheet [Carrypad] Steve. InCarTerminal now free.

Posted on 22 November 2006

I received a message from the developers on InCarTerminal today to say that the software is now free. The bad news is that the ict team can’t find the time to carry on with development. That’s a real shame because I was enjoying it on my Vega. [here and here]   Hopefully it will get picked up by the community and taken further because its a nice low-end alternative to the rather expensive StreetDeck solution. More info of in car software here. The new website for InCarTerminal is here at Inyourcar.de […]

LG C1 convertible tablet specifications in full. More images.

Posted on 22 November 2006

Here are the rest of the images from today (sorry about the quality) and the specifications as stated on the World of mobility Expo flyer. Remember that the C1 is still going through approval in Germany. Things can change. It’s an absolute peach of a mini tablet PC. The P1610 is obviously smaller but there’s going to be a real three-way shootout between the P1610, the Flybook V33i and the LG C1. High gloss piano black.     Here’s the A! and C1 together. A1 is nearest.     LG A1 […]

Q1b coming to Europe. Soon.

Posted on 22 November 2006

Samsung have spilled the beans on the availability of the Q1b in Germany. It will come with an unlocked HSDPA modem in the first few weeks of December. That’s just weeks away. Price is unknown but we have already been told (at the IFA) that it would enter the market at the same price as the current Q1. To me, that means that the Q1 will go down in price to go head-to-head with the R2H. Also from Samsung is the news that the Q1 car mount is now available. I […]
