The lucky man himself, jk, got hold of a Fujitsu P1610. I’m still looking for a reason why someone might buy the 1610 over the 1510 because the current models don’t appear to be shipping with cellular data modem included. That’s planned for Jan 2007 in Europe. Its still a wonderful machine though and its joint #2 on the Carrypad ultra mobile PC product list today. A lot of people are interested in it. I’ll definitely be following the reviews at jkOnTheRun. and I should get some hands-on with one at the […]

The Eleksen fabric keyboard appeared on the UberTablet blog earlier this week and Hugo seemed quite impressed. Have a gander at his video. I love the way that my watermark appears on that image! Click to enlarge. Please! Ultranauts were asking “What’s the Speed Coefficient?” I can tell you. Its 0.545 The Eleksen fabric keyboard is 54% as fast as a normal keyboard. As you probably guessed, I was testing the Eleksen fabric keyboard yesterday and it was 54% as fast as my typing on a normal keyboard. It sounds pretty bad doesn’t it? Actually its […]

“keep your eyes on HTC!” – Carrypad. Hopefully you’ve seen the news of the Seattle Times HTC interview. HTC confirmed that they will be putting together a team of designers in the U.S. for Ultra Mobile devices. Its about time they said something. I was beginning to worry that predictions were wrong. (You might find a few references to them here if you look carefully ;-) “One likely scenario is that HTC will start moving efforts into the ultra mobile PC business. It would certainly make sense for HTC and […]

I’ve just completed a suite of typing/input speed tests with four different input devices. The results are below. How do they compare with your experiences? Scenario 1 – i7210 ultra mobile PC + On screen keyboard Scenario 2 – i7210 ultra mobile PC + full size USB keyboard Scenario 3 – Pepperpad 3 (thumbboard) Scenario 4 – i7210 ultra mobile PC + mystery portable keyboard Test 1 – Starting with an open browser, type the URL www.google.com, open docs and spreadsheets through the ‘more’ and ‘even more’ menu, start a new document […]

Apparently, an MP3 player was launched yesterday. Move along please. Nothing to see here. Steve / Chippy View details of all Ultra Mobile devices in the ultra mobile PC product database. From N800 to Flybook V5, its all there!

As a business-oriented ultra mobile PC or laptop replacement, the P1510 was pretty hard to beat. It and the Flybook V33i are still two of the best multi-purpose Ultra Mobile PCs. Why? Well they have the 9″ screen, a 1024-wide resolution and the keyboard that a lot of journalists said was missing from the Origami based devices. I tend to agree. Well actually, I strongly agree. Although touchscreen capability is wonderful, there is no substitute for a keyboard for the majority of people. Those aged 40 and under are pretty […]

Just a heads up that the deal on Woot.com today is a refurbished Samsung Q1 UMPC. They are selling it for $750 plus $5 shipping, so its a pretty good deal. For anyone who hasn’t heard of the site before, they sell one item a day for a nice price. Let us know if you pick one up.

Remember the VX3. The ruggedised ultra mobile PC that I found back in early August? Well Frank over at Ultramobile PC Tips has done us all a favor and published a tip he’s received. I don’t think he’s spotted that its the ruggedised Mobits VX3 design though. (Don’t worry Frank. I missed the similarity between the Arima and Medion devices last week!) Akori appear to be acting as a distributor it and are selling it as the AK-7 UMPC. So what can we expect from it? Well, think Samsung Q1b. […]
