Carputer news. iMobile Atlas, Centrafuse on UMPC.

The iMobile Atlas Car PC has been reported via OnlyUMPC and Gizmodo but I can’t find a reference to it on the iMobile website. I think this is pre-release news. There’s no price either.

Its a double-DIN unit and appears to be well specified. The image above shows a camera image and there an amp built-in for direct connection to speakers.

If you want to build your own, there’s always the ultra mobile PC route. Centrafuse, one of a number of software overlay solutions, was given a quick test by gunshow at UMPCBuzz.

The problem with carputer software on UMPCs at the moment is that there are very few car mounting solutions available. This won’t happen until UMPCs start selling in big numbers.

My choice for a basic carputer is still the Raon Digital Vega because it can fit into a universal PDA mount, is very portable and small enough for on-dash mounting. I’ll try out centrafuse when I get the chance.

Steve.
