Is that it for UMPC 2006 hardware?

The year that pushed the Ultra Mobile PC concept a little bit too far into the limelight perhaps?

I’m not about to do a review of 2006 UMPC-style -there will be plenty of those coming up in the next 4 weeks I’m sure – I’m just wondering if there will be any more product news this side of Christmas.

Nearly all the items in the watchlist are covered by CES 2007 apart from the Mobits range which I’m quite interested to see as they use a similar processor/chipset combo as the Q1b.

Oh, yeah the Q1b. That’s due for launch in a week or two in Germany. I think I’ll spend my efforts next week getting a demo of that lined up. If only it had a mouse pointer and a docking station then I’d buy one.

In the meantime, don’t forget the UMPC2007 specification that Dennis Luo, project manager for UMPCs at Microsoft, presented at the Via Technical forum. The (3MB) PDF is here and the UMPC2007 spec starts on page 8 but the interesting stuff is on page 9 – here.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Steve.
