Of course. The Samsung SPH-P9000.

I need to pay more attention. What Judie was alluding to was obviously the Samsung SPH-P9000 Ultra Mobile PC Phone thingy.

She hasn’t posted anything yet but Slash Gear have just put some photos out of the device.Vincent Nguyen was at the Samsung party with Judie.

There’s a big bunch of photos, a video to come later and I assume there will be comments from all those that are there.

It will be available from Sprint early 2008. ‘The price is under $2000.’ So that’s only 13 Months away then. Enough time to save up.

By my definition its a ultra mobile PC and these are the specs I have so far:

Manufacturer: Samsung
Model name:SPH-P9000
CPU type: Transmeta Crusoe
CPU speed: 1000 Mhz
OS: Windows XP
Screen Size: 5 inches
Screen Resolution: 800×480
Hard Disk: 30 GB
Weight: 560 gm

I love the design but as i’ve said before, this is a device that looks like it will need a a table if you want to type.

Its unique for the time being but 13 months is a long time. Raon Digital are already working on a new device as are DualCor. They will be watching this carefully for feedback.

Carrypad data sheet here.

Steve.

Hey there Steve. I owned the Vega but the only 4-way joypad(not 8-way no matter what mode it was in), the excessive heat buildup of the Geode processor after only a short time of use(same thing with the Kohjinsha), and the easy to remove while using it AC plug was enough for me to return it to dynamism. That samsung 2008 model is fugly though since you will need a flat surface even to just jot down a quick paragraph or two with that 2-part keyboard. Why don’t they just add a small keyboard and a clamshell design? :)The price seems outrageous also for the specs. Hope Dualcor and Raon read this as I think i’m close to the mark on what a lot of people want. BTW, love the blog Steve. Jerry.

    Hi Jerry.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I found the joystick a little on the ‘digital’ side but really not bad after a while.

Heat build-up was more than on most devices (interesting to hear that the SA1 is the same – the PepperPad 3 is never hot) but I didn’t find it too bad.

2007 will be a great year for Ultra Mobile devices and most of us that bought in 2006 will be looking to upgrade to much better devices!

Whats on your shortlist now then? How about the Medion RIM 1000? I like that device. COuld be spring before it turns up though.

    Hi again Steve.
My shortlist would be either the OQO2, the Flipstart(I know I know), DualCor, or the Averatec AHI. If the specs are released for each and I like one over the other than I will have to give my Q1b a bon voyagee as it was a temporary(albeit great) umpc solution to a monumental craving.

I’m looking for something smallish so one of these or a newer applicant will get my pesos, rupees, and pounds this coming year. Excited to see what happens after CES 07. Jerry.

OQO 2 looks nice if it has cellular data built in. DualCor – I don’t like the concept.
    Averatec is a nice product.
    Flipstart, well, lets see eh!!
None of these have docking stations though which is why I like the Medion Device. You can use it mobile or as a workstation.

I’m also in love with the LG C1. Blows the P1610 away for looks and features.

The LG C1 is one I am going to be watching for as well and it will be dependant on the price and availability but it does seem to be the most powerful choice to rule the portable world. MwaHaHaHa!!!!

I’ll give the Medion PC a look see. If David Hasselhoff likes it too than there must be something to it. :)
    Jerry.

This is the what I have been waiting years for a computer with a touch type keyboard that can fit in a jacket pocket. Great design! The unit comes as a kit with matching cell phone designed to plug into the right side for under $2k US.

Fantastic device! I hate all the thumb designs and the devices with no built in keyboard. I think it is a winner and I would buy one if they are available in US.

I do hope Dualcor and others modify their design to incorporate a real keyboard not a thumb variation.

A real origami device that can fit in your pocket and has a keyboard! Great computer, when will it be in US?
