Inkoogle. Ink-enabled Google search

Posted on 13 December 2006

Frank (aka Ctitanic) has written another Ink-enabled software package. The “Universal Web Searching tool with Ink Support” – Inkoogle. Through inkoogle you can search Google and have easy access to language, location and alternative Google search engines. More details on this freeware are available from Ctitanics site. Good work Frank. Keep that software coming. Just one question though, how on earth do you find the time to write four blogs, post thousands of forum entries, write software and do a full time job? Did you write software to do that […]

Basic guide to Tablet PC Software

Posted on 13 December 2006

I could have done with this a few months ago when I finally got my first ultra mobile PC and as a result, my first Tablet PC. Its a basic guide to some of the main tablet PC software. I don’t use tablet features as much as I probably should but with resources like this (and that great video from UberTablet) I haven’t got any excuse. Don’t forget the TabletWiki too. Steve. View details of all Ultra Mobile devices in the ultra mobile PC product database. From N800 to Flybook […]

E90 communicator. 800-wide screen. UMPC-like.

Posted on 13 December 2006

Update: E90 Data Sheet now available on the product portal. Following up on some Nokia E90 rumors…hold on…take a look at this image first and then I’ll continue. Its obviously just a mock up drawing but its apparently an official Nokia drawing so there might be something in it. Back to the details though, if you take a look at this convincing post by Ring Nokia (the details have already been pulled from other websites but the info has entered the Google zone so there’s no hiding it now Nokia!) […]

Asus R2H Vista upgrades available.

Posted on 13 December 2006

I’ve been trying to work out the details of this ever since jkOnTheRun reported it yesterday. I think I’ve worked it out now. If you bought your R2H after October 26th 2006, you can go to the Microsoft Vista and Office Upgrade Redemption site and register for the actual upgrade. It looks like you will get the Business edition for free. That sounds like great news although it would have been nice to have media center on such a consumer oriented UMPC. I would have thought that the Home Premium […]

U.S. cellular moving forward. Rev.A news that Europe needs to take note of.

Posted on 13 December 2006

Rev.A is not something you here much round these parts. Its all HSDPA and UMTS over here don’t you know. Rev.A is an extension to the EV-DO data protocol used by some cellular carriers in the U.S.  Sprint and Verizon are probably the biggest carriers using it and it offers improved upload data rates of 300-400kbps. That’s pretty nice if you want to do live mobile podcasting or even videocasting. Kevin (jkOnTheRun) has been commenting on the news that Rev.A is now available and he points out that you can […]

UMPC stolen from Chris Pirillo’s wedding.

Posted on 13 December 2006

This is good ultra mobile PC story with a bad ending. Its a story from Chris Pirillo who is probably best described as an Uber-Geek (in a good way of course,) blogger, friend of many other ubergeeks and, as I just found out, the guy who runs Lockergnomes Mobile lifestyle. That’s a blog I’ve been reading for ages. I didn’t realise it was the Chris that Robert Scoble always mentions. Anyway, back to the story. He got married last weekend (congratulations to Chris and Ponzi) and had the idea to spring a geek […]

PepperPad 3 now available (pre-order) in Europe.

Posted on 13 December 2006

This is something I’ve been badgering Pepper Computer about for the last few months and finally, finally, our European wishes have come true. Click for PepperPad specs. PocketPCSolutions has finalised a deal with Hanbit/Pepper Computer to sell the Pepperpad 3 in Europe. PocketPC solutions are one of the few companies in Europe that have a good handle on the Ultra Mobile computing sector and I’ve had a lot of communication with them about various ultra mobile PC products (we have talked at length about the Vega and the PepperPad 3,) I’ve seen their sales and support process […]

300GB UMPC anyone? Fujitsu’s new HDD.

Posted on 12 December 2006

Akihabara have just posted info on the new 300GB 2.5″ drive from Fujitsu. Just imagine dropping that in a UMPC. You could turn it into a low-power network storage device with battery backup. Its got a 1.6W max power requirement. Unfortunately I’m not aware of any UMPC’s that are using 2.5″ drives with a S-ATA connector. The one’s I’ve seen so far have been low-profile ZIF devices. Anyone got any tips on this? The press release here states that they are aiming to sell 1.5 million units in 2007. Steve.   Technorati tags: […]
