Kohjinsha SA1 owner reviews.

Posted on 12 December 2006

Over at Handtops.com a Kohjinsha SA1 owner, crisp, has posted his opinions on this tiny tiny notebook PC. Kohjinsha – my new baby describes a happy buying experience from Conics.net (about £700 after import into the UK.) and a happy user. I note a negative comment about the keyboard however. A second, more detailed review and a series of follow-up posts can be found at SuperDaves soapbox. This picture is great. Just look how small it is. Incredible! Dave also has some issues with the ‘very firm’ keyboard but apart from that […]

The Eleksen fabric keyboard video.

Posted on 11 December 2006

This is the Eleksen fabric keyboard prototype. I’m writing this blog with it now just to demonstrate how quick it is. At the same time I’m videoing it so that you can see all my mistakes! Its quick, but on this worktop that I’m using, its a bit slippery. You can also see how I have to peck the keyboard with sharp taps instead of just hovering over the keys like you might do on a normal keyboard. Anyway take a look at the video and see what you think.   […]

A trio of P1610 postings.

Posted on 10 December 2006

‘Blog du Tristank’ has three articles on the P1610 that are worth reading. The first day and a bit First impressions Vista performance. He seems very happy with the P1610. James Kendrick is happy too. He’s also bought one! Steve. View details of all Ultra Mobile devices in the ultra mobile PC product database. From N800 to Flybook V5, its all there!

Fujitsu P1610 reviewed. Gets 9/10.

Posted on 10 December 2006

Ctitanic has reviewed a P1610. He’s already a V7110 and Q1 owner so as you’d expect, he draws comparisons to the two ultra mobile PC devices. Personally I think the P1610 is great. Its the business end of the ultra mobile PC market and only the Flybook V33i (which I have tested) and the LG C1 (which I have played with) can compare with it. Unfortunately, the battery life is the standard 2-2.5 hours and there’s no cellular data modem on it as there was in the one reviewed at […]

MoTR gets interested in the PepperPad 3.

Posted on 10 December 2006

Mobile Tech Roundup 81 has been posted and Kevin has some interesting things to say about the PepperPad 3. It took a video for them to realise it (goes to show how useful videos demos can be.) but I think they’re all now quite surprised as to how useable the PP3 really is. The AMD LX800 may be small but its got muscles in all the right places and the split keyboard layout is a winner. There simply is no better device for two-handed browsing. I had this confirmed this […]

Kohjinsha SA1F00B Review at Akihabara.

Posted on 08 December 2006

Update: Carrypad unboxing, gallery and review notes available now. Akihabara have a review and video up of the SA1F00B AMD-based Ultra Mobile PC. I’ve read through the review and watched the video. Its quite brief as Akihabara only seem to have had the device for a matter of hours. The bootup shown on the video was about 40 seconds which is slightly quicker than the Raon Digital Vega (also AMD LX800 based) Akihabara mention the processor speed in their notes and also say that decoding DVD’s could be a problem. […]

Engadget report: Mylo vs 770.

Posted on 08 December 2006

Here on the Carrypad ultra mobile PC portal, the Nokia 770 is regarded as an ultra-mobile PC. The Sony Mylo is not. Engadget have a good article today that runs through the basic differences between the two devices. They are both offered at the same price and offer similar form factors but they both have a different focus. If anyone is considering these devices you should definitely read through the article. I really like the Nokia device. The concept of the low-end 5″ web-pad is where I think we’ll see […]

HDPC – ‘The Ugly Sofa’

Posted on 07 December 2006

Oh dear oh dear. Where on earth do I start with this one then? The MIU ‘M*free’. that I’ve just nicknamed ‘The Sofa.’ It looks like the screen slides up and then flaps back over to reveal a seriously ugly looking telephone-style device. There’s also a module that you can unplug to give you a portable storage unit, digicam and MP3 player. Modular is good but this little gremlin needs some serious re-working.   My favorite bit is the beautifully retro advertising. Click on this and get a load of […]
