S-XGen new info. Price.

Posted on 07 December 2006

Twice.com have published information on the S-XGen. Its not clear if its new info or if they’re republishing existing info. A price, some more specs and another battery life figure have been given though so lets go through the details. Slightly changed from the first specifications I saw are the 256MB memory and the OS which is now Windows CE as opposed to the WM5 that was reported earlier. Battery life is reported to be about 10 hours which is very good. Cellular capability is included but there’s no word […]

Nurian Z1

Posted on 07 December 2006

Aving.net have posted details about another uber-dictionary.  HANNURI BIZ unveiled the ‘Nurian Z1’, a temporary name for something that’s close to the intersection point of consumer UMPCs, High-end navigation devices, Uber-PMPs, Uber-Smartphones and of course, dictionaries. Apparently that’s what the Z1 is. A dictionary. Since when did you need Win CE and what looks like an 800×480 screen to do find out how to spell? Apparently there’s a media streaming function too. It uses the built-in WiFi. If there’s a HDD built in, a cellular modem and if someone fancies writing an nice bit of […]

Dave Beers digs deeper into Palm rumor.

Posted on 07 December 2006

You probably need to read this post first! There’s a fine slither of a rumor that Palm are working on something in the Ultra Mobile space. Dave Beers, obviously a friend of Michael Mace (has Palm connections.) got some new info from Mr Mace. There’s really nothing solid here but if I was creating a Google filter it would contain the keywords ‘Palm Linux Tablet Mobile’ If you’re following the Palm rumor as closely as I am, you should read Daves post. UMPC cases. I’m in touch with my feminine side.

Posted on 07 December 2006

For the first time ever, I spent more time in the bags section of the department store than my wife did. I was looking for the ultimate i7210 case! Honestly. Bags have never been so interesting. I even took pictures. People must have thought I had flipped. This one was absolutely perfect. Its a quality leather bag with wrist strap and about 552 different compartments. The i7210 sits perfectly in the middle compartment. It was damn expensive though so I had to let it pass. I’m sorry. I’ll stop now. […]

PepperPad 3 review at Pocketables.

Posted on 06 December 2006

There’s a nice review of the PepperPad 3 at Pocketables. Lots of pictures of the user interface and even a video. Good job. What’s more, its only Part 1 of 3! what makes using the PP3 comfortable is the placement of the keypad, navigation pad, and scroll wheel. Everything is located within easy reach of my thumbs. I totally agree. Stay tuned for more about the ‘delightful Pad’ at Pocketables.net  Carrypad PepperPad specifications and links. UMPC snippets on Nikolaus Tag

Posted on 06 December 2006

It’s Sankt Nikolaus Day here in Germany and across many countries in Europe (See wikipedia. He’s the original Santa Klaus and he had a mate that used to eat naughty children.) so all the children have woken up to either presents or a piece of coal in their boots. I’ll be off later to the Christmas Market to drink Gluhwein. Don’t expect too much from me today.   If you missed it yesterday, Engadget reported that the OQO Model 02 is going through the FCC process. Nothing much to report apart […]

A black one no less!  The gift guide is here and entry requires a “What I’d like to see in Red Hat Magazine” submission. (see entry conditions for more details.) Other prizes include a Lego Mindstorms Kit  and that USB snowbot that Gear Diary were testing the other day. […]

Speedscript on-screen keyboard

Posted on 05 December 2006

WindowsforDevices are reporting on an on-screen keyboard that has been developed for UMPCs. It looks very different! SpeedScript claims its approach is about as fast as 10-finger typing on a normal QWERTY keyboard. This has got to be worth a test. Hop over to WindowsForDevices for the low-down and I’ll be back with some tests results later. I’m trying the demo version which is available here. Its off to a bad start because the license agreement window and demo doesn’t fit in an 800×480 window. tut tut! ——-UPDATE—— Update: This is […]
