Update: In my haste, I forgot to mention that I got a mention! Best ultra mobile PC coverage. Result! Warner Crocker (Life On The Wicked Stage act2) has released the Second Annual Life On The Wicked Stage Ink Blot Awards. Warner is one of the central characters in the Tablet PC community and he has put together a nice list of mostly tablet and ultra mobile PC awards. I’ll go through them all and make sure I’ve got them all in my blog linklist. I’d like to add one more:Funniest […]

So product placement really works. I’ve been a bit confused as to why the Sony UX has been climbing up the Carrypad charts over the last 2 weeks. I haven’t reported much on it recently so it couldn’t have been anything I did. Honest Mum. I’ve worked out why it happened though. I hadn’t thought about it until earlier this evening. Its a result of the Sony UX product placement in the Bond film Casino Royale and the $3200 Sony Style James Bond Spy Kit that was simultaneously launched. So how much […]

The year that pushed the Ultra Mobile PC concept a little bit too far into the limelight perhaps? I’m not about to do a review of 2006 UMPC-style -there will be plenty of those coming up in the next 4 weeks I’m sure – I’m just wondering if there will be any more product news this side of Christmas. Nearly all the items in the watchlist are covered by CES 2007 apart from the Mobits range which I’m quite interested to see as they use a similar processor/chipset combo as […]

Could it be that the term UMPC is catching on as a positive tag? It was different just three months ago!The Register seem to think so and I guess it’s all good for UMPCs that people keep hearing the term. However, even by my relaxed definition of a UMPC these ‘new’ HP Ipaq devices are still a step-change away from being UMPCs. 320×240 and WM5 does not a UMPC make. The browsing experience is, i’m convinced, the most important factor for an ultra mobile PC. If you cant get an […]

My plans for CES (Jan 8-11, Las Vegas) have fallen through. Its costing way way too much so i’ve decided to switch the sponsorship I had to efforts at CeBit where I can take advantage of my home location. GottaBeMobile, jkOnTheRun, Thoughtfix and the Heinys will be there though so we’re assured of great coverage but if anyone is interested in being a Carrypad slave, please get in touch because I need someone to be my remote photographer, Carrypad shirt-wearer and inquirer! I’m happy to pay some pocket money too […]

TabletPCReview.com have been playing with one of the original Origami-spec UMPCs, the TabletKiosk eov7110. Its also known as the Paceblade EasyBook P7, The Ago7 and Ubiquio 701. [Got that Google?] They’ve just released a review. The eo v7110 had a few problems at the start of its life and there are still a lot of references around to its battery life problems. Those problems have long been cleared up and the v7110 is a stable machine. I am regularly in contact with a couple of ultra mobile PC designers and […]
