Pepper to demo on OLPC at CES.

Posted on 05 January 2007

Pepper computer will be demonstrating the Pepper software running on an OLPC at CES next week.

There’s a lot of similarity between the ‘pad and that little green machine. AMD, Red Hat Linux, Simplified user interface. It makes a lot of sense. Even if you’re not a Pepper fan, its got to be worth checking out the Pepper booth (Sands 69623) just to get a peep at the ultimate ‘I bought it for the kids’ gift!

More info and talk of a video soon at Carrypad.

Pepper software demo on OLPC at CES.

Posted on 05 January 2007

Many of you will have heard about the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) project that is building a surprising amount of steam [ref. news yesterday] and impressing everyone with its frankly, awesome technology. Well here’s some very interesting news direct from Pepper Computer who have just let me know that they have been working with the OLPC hardware and will be demonstrating the Pepper software running on an OLPC at CES next week. They’ve been kind enough to send some images and have promised a video to follow up soon. (I should […]

iRiver W10 UMPC

Posted on 04 January 2007

Do you remember this from CeBit last year?

It didn’t get a lot of air-time then because there wasn’t really much info about it. 5-inch screen, 60GB drive, WiBro, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and a T-DMB tuner was about all that was known. DigiTimes had the original story.

The W10 has resurfaced today in a few stories (We picked it up through Scott Janousek’s blog.) because I-River announced that would show more new devices at CES. A new rendering has surfaced at iriverfans:

but it looks totally different doesn’t it. Could there be a slide-out keyboard in it? Not long until CES now so hold your horses!

The Tagging Monster got me.

Posted on 04 January 2007

I completely missed all this tagging lark going on over Christmas. When I checked my email I had a you’ve been tagged’ message but I marked it as spam (sorry Robyn of sleepyblogger.com.) Then Matt Propst told me I’d been tagged by Kevin Tofel. I better return the favor, even though I’m probably the last blogger in the world to do it! I was a part-time Fireman for British Telecom at their research labs in Ipswich, UK. One day we had to remove a leaking Phosphine tank (so toxic that you wouldn’t live to get […]

Late nights start tonight with the Kohjinsha SA1F00A.

Posted on 04 January 2007

This will get me used to the late-night CES schedule I have planned. The Kohjinsha SA1 was handed over to me this morning and then promptly and painfully taken away because I got hit for taxes and Mr Fedex Germany doesn’t take electronic cash. I’ll pick it up later and start the photo-shoot and reviews tonight. The late nights will continue until he end of CES. Mr Gates keynote speech starts at 0330 local time for example! Where are my ProPlus tabs? Steve   Technorati tags: umpc, kohjinsha View details of all Ultra […]

Pepperpad 3. Now for the bad news!

Posted on 03 January 2007

Jenn of Pocketables has posted the last of the three-part ‘delightful, decent and dissapointing’ series on the PepperPad 3.

There’s a moan about the warmth, a groan about the lack of a memory card slot and a gripe about the integrated camera but overall “the Pepper Pad 3 is just about perfect.”

That’s perfect in certain situations of course. Remember that this is really a home-use device with a good hack rating and not your all round UMPC. But for what its designed for and at $629 (current eCost price,) we tend to agree with Jenn.

Your favorite UMPC workspace.

UMPCBuzz has followed up a post in the Intel community blog pages about home work spaces. That makes me wonder. The ultra mobile PC allows you to work anywhere so where is your favorite spot? I’ve put an image of my daytime office and aired my favorite surfing spot on this Origamiportal thread. Feel free to add images of your own home ultra mobile PC ‘office.’ The Coolest setup gets a post on the front page of Origamiportal. Sorry but I don’t have cool things to give away like those […]
