Someone in Oz got hold of the U1010. That not US version which is labeled U810 (and will have the 4-cell battery as we’ve just reported.)
There a big set of unboxing photo’s available here.

Allasus.com have put up their pre-order page for the ASUS EeePC 700 and 701 in America. Prices:
Shipping is being quoted as ‘Early October’ for this ‘Internet PC’. Specifications are listed but are ‘subject to change.’ Looking around it appears that other retailers have prices up now too.
Details, images and links for the Eee PC 701 are already in the database.
Thanks, Fragles, for the tip.

Just minutes after posting the last news item stating that the HTC Shift has small battery like the Fujitsu U1010, Glen pings me to tell me that the U810 (U.S. version) specifications are up on the Fujitsu web site and the U810 will be shipping with the 4-cell, 37.4W/hr battery giving it 5 hours of battery life.
The price is pretty good too. I wonder if I could put up with that small screen and high PPI especially as you can buy it with XP TE as a zero dollar option. And even better, there’s the docking station available for just $80. From the website:
The port replicator provides the following additional features:
And how about that pink case Jenn? It’s the same colour as your website. You HAVE to buy one now.
Full information in the Fujitsu store here.
PDF Spec sheet is available here. I’ll get these specs up in the database today. Specs are in the DB now.
Thanks to Glen for the tip.

As I suspected, the HTC Shift has a 20W/hr battery (2700mAh x 7.2v) just like the Fujitsu U1010 and is actually quite an efficient device. The short battery life has obviously been a choice based on size and weight priorities. As this device has been in the making for a year now (lets assume they started when this happened.) maybe they expected battery tech to advance. Maybe they wanted to use the slightly more dense Li-Ion batteries but, like others, switched to Li-Ion Polymer after all the exploding batteries changed the game. Maybe they haven’t actually got the final battery finished yet!
The good news about all this is that nothing in terms of board design would need to change and if designers could find a way to add the extra 50 or so grams and find the space for the extra cell, you would have a 3 hour device. Personally I’d be happy if they threw out the windows mobile component and added 100 grams to give me a four hour device.
Thanks to Kaz911 for this info. He has a few other tidbits over on his blog entry.

Update: Full specifications now available.
At last the Benq device is revealed. Its a 4.8″ screen with what looks like 800×480 res. That’s RedFlag’s Midinux running as the interface. Shiny blue plastic and Linux could mean a cheaper price perhaps? Keyboard? Is that a camera? Lots of questions to be asked!
There’s a very short video on the YouTube Intel Channel.

I’ve cleared up the cellar and set it up as the news room for the next 3 days. The camera is on and the chat channel is open. Feel free to wander in and say hello. Watch me drink tea/beer and pick my nose. I might even turn the mic on for you!
The main idea is that the live chat session will be running so we can discuss any news as it comes up.
You’ll need be registered and to log in to enter the live page (this is to keep bots out) and view the video but you can also join the public chat room at meebo without any login.

I’ve tried emailing a lot of people about this over the last few months but no-one appears to be listening.
UMPC.com is out of date and spam-ridden. It needs to be cleared up for potential customers.
Intel, your ‘Official UMPC’ web site is the #1 entry on a search for UMPCs in many search engines. You must be getting thousands of people per day entering the site and yet you seem to have more content in there about cheap N95’s than UMPCs. The last news update was in April and on the eve of IDF fall 2007, you’re advertising IDF Fall 2006.
You’re putting tens, if not hundreds of millions into developing new UMPC hardware. Please put a few hours into UMPC.com. If you haven’t got time, I’ll be happy to take it on for you.

Intel launched Channel Intel a week ago and they’ve been putting a lot of content up in the last few days. Here’s a great one. Two UMPC prototypes and the demonstrator from the Finnish company EB. Size-wise they’re all around the 5″ mark and look to be running a KDE GUI.
