Nokia have put up the official price of the Nokia N810 on their European website. A smidgen under 500 Euros which is 100 Euros more than the launch price of the N800 nearly a year ago. However, I’m already seeing it for 420 Euros at Amazon and even 400 Euros at discount online retailers. At 420, its pretty much mobile device bargain of the year!
Availability is not yet set in concrete with the only dates I can find in the 7-14 day range. Its imminent though.
The partnership with Boingo sounds interesting too. For 6 Euros per month you get access to tens of thousands of Wifi access points. Which sounds nice until you realise that its a worldwide network. In my city, Bonn, there’s a total of 5 hotspots – All in hotels. 3G over Bluetooth will be a far better option for people wanting real mobile Internet.
When I got the N800 last year I wasn’t very impressed. Its interesting to read what I said:
“The processing power is too low and there’s no slide-out keyboard, the software is not consumer grade and incomplete and it should have had GPS built in.”
One year later and we’re looking at a device with much more mature software, a faster processor and that keyboard. The GPS makes it even more interesting as does the Canola media player software which is rumored to be nearly ready for the N810. All in all I’m pretty excited about the N810. Its easily the best MID of the year. I should have one to test very soon.
More info on the N810 in the product database.
the funny thing about that cpu is that its the exact same one as in the N800. its just that the N800 one was software downclocked to save battery. with os08, even the N800 will get the cpu speed of the N810.
