Jailbroken! HTC Shift.

Many of you will have been tracking the progress of this over at the XDA-developers forum. SnapVue on the HTC Shift has been opened up and restored into its full WM6 glory. I’m not going to read all the 700+ posts to find out the details of how they did it but I understand it used a similar email method to the one I tried when I tested the Shift last year.

The best part of this whole story is that in true iPhone style, the hack has been simplified to the point where I think anyone could do it. Modaco (thanks for the heads-up guys) have put together a very simple method that they detailed and show in a video over on their site. They are also planning to release software ‘packs’ which can be installed to restore functionality like Pocket IE and Office. A 50+hr WM6 component sounds a lot more interesting than 50+hrs of emails and calendar don’t you think?

Check out the long version at XDA-developers or the short version with video at Modaco.
