Your friendly Asian ultra mobile PC news generator, Digitimes, has already spoken of Atom supply issues but the info at that time was just too thin to take any notice of. This time, however, Asustek Computer president Jerry Shen has said that the shortages could persist until September giving an element of significance to the news. In addition, he said that the Atom and Celeron version of the Eee PC will overlap. Obviously this wasn’t the original intent.
Asustek will launch an Atom-based 8.9-inch Eee PC in June which will coexist with the current Celeron M-based Eee PC 900 during the shortage
Digitimes also report that the prices of the CPU’s could rise as a result of demand but bear in mind here that the conversation is probably about the Diamondville/netbook market where getting a product out quickly is very important.
I’m just waiting for black 900. Celeron will do just fine, since atom doesen’t bring a good reason for waiting.
Seems to me that Jerry Shen is prepping the market for higher prices. What a convenient shortage!
