The Clevo TN70M that we reported on back at CeBIT has now turned into the TN71M but the key feature remains the same. Battery life. More after the image…
Clevo aren’t using the low-cost netbook platform, they’ve gone for a Silverthorne Atom processor and the Poulsbo chipset which gives them the ability to squeeze in an extra high-capacity battery in to the frame and return more efficiency out of the whole platform. Previously we calculated that the the device could deliver 7 hours on its standard battery and now, Aving are reporting that it will return up to 8 hours. That’s all-day battery life right there and its two-years early!
The device still features the GPS, touch and fingerprint reader which means they probably still have the internal slot for a 3G module. If they hit their price target of $700, it will be impressive but remember, these guys are just making the devices, not selling them to end users. End user price will be up to the reseller/brand and with these features, I don’t expect anything south of $800. Two other negative points 1) This may have to run Vista 2) Its not that good looking is it!
8 hours battery life though…that’s something. Imagine it with an extended battery!
I got my eyes on you, i am talking to the device (don’t get me wrong).
This device can take many netbooks out of the map, if it’s priced right.
It may not be pretty, but if it runs Ubuntu (with all of the hardware features supported … except maybe the fingerprint scanner), esp. the “Netbook Remix”, then I’m in.
I guess I’m willing to do without the GPS being supported under Ubuntu, as well. I’m not a big GPS user.
