Something is up here. Something exciting perhaps. Either someone had a bit too much love for OQO’s ID when they hashed together a design for Nvidia’s computex webpage or OQO are indeed going to use their industrial design skills to release an ARM-based MID. Oh the mind boggles. Android? Windows Mobile 7? Click to enlarge. That’s definitely an OQO with an Nvidia logo on it! Source The OQO ultra mobile PC design is one of the best there is. Beautiful engineering. Near perfect keyboard. I’d be extremely happy to see […]

It looks like Elonex are just about to launch some additions to their notebook range. They currently sell the Elonex One in the UK which is a 99 pound ($200) netbook with a detachable keyboard but if you take a look at the new products section on the Computex website you’ll find images of 4 new products. There’s the OneTwo3g which sports a voip phone, the OneTwo3 8 (top right in the picture) which is presumably an 8.9" device that I swear I’ve seen before somewhere, and then there’s a […]

Maybe I should have waited a few more weeks to write that article about how the smartphone platform is developing into a mobile computing platform. I said that it could be months before we see any sort of reality but today Qualcomm have demonstrated an Inventec OEM mini-laptop running on a Snapdragon ARM-core processor. There aren’t any pics available at the moment but the notebook is said, in this article from PC World, to be "small and streamlined." Not surprising because Nvidia also showed their new Tegra platform sitting inside […]

The 912 surfaced a few days ago on the Gigabyte website without an image but the official image is up now. [Gigabyte product page] With an 8.9" screen at 1280×768 in a case that’s not a few mm bigger than the Eee PC 900, it looks like it could be a real VyeS37 killer. Assuming the device is based on Diamondville, it will have similar performance and with its 32wh battery its likely to have a much better battery life than the Vye which was never the efficient device that […]

No agenda, just a few screens, a desk and a bed. Oh, and lots of tea! Although the event starts tomorrow, there’s a WiMAX event also taking place which has started already. VIA’s OpenBook and the ASUS 901 have already been spotted! Back to work. Someone just pinged me with Acer One specs…. False alarm!

This could be a major marketing cock-up! A prototype of the laptop, based on the open-source Via OpenBook reference design announced last week, was shown by contract manufacturer Quanta Computer at WiMax Expo, an exhibition being held alongside the annual Computex show in Taipei. The laptop will begin shipping during the third quarter, Quanta said. A check of the laptop’s properties confirmed the laptop is based on a 1.6GHz C7-M processor from Via and listed Sony as the manufacturer. When the existence of Sony’s name on the machine was pointed […]

Hold your Eee PC 900 orders because the 901 is coming! It’s just been shown-off at a WiMax conference in Taipei and PCWorld picked up the details. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will standard features of the 901, and a WiMax version is planned as well. Black and white versions of the 1.14 kilogram laptop were on display, which has a battery life of four to six hours, Asustek said. Pricing was not disclosed. 4 hours on a 4-cell battery. 6-hours on a 6-cell battery perhaps? The 901 will feature the same […]

The M704 is the smallest 7″ 1024×600 ultra mobile PC you can buy. It’s got a 3hr+ battery life, 1.2Ghz VIA C7 CPU, slide-out keyboard, has a good set of accessories available, weighs under 800gm and comes in at a good value price. Why is it that I’m not getting excited? Because of images like this? [see full article…]
