Jenn from Pocketables.net notes that the Sony VAIO UX490 has gone missing from SonyStyle.com. This isn’t abnormal for Sony. It’s been seen before, however this time it seems a bit different as Sony has completely removed the UX section from their website. This is the first time that there hasn’t been at least one UX model for sale on SonyStyle. Without the UX490 there is nothing under that category, so the whole section has been removed from the site. I think the big question is whether this is an indicator […]

Acer’s entry into the netbook space was seen a few weeks ago, but hasn’t been seen on their site until recently. An entire mini-site dedicated to the Aspire One can be seen over at Acer’s website. One of the first things you will read on that site is the following: The Aspire one is more than just another ultra-mobile notebook: it’s an all-new communication device designed to deliver continuous access to the internet and a simplified wireless experience no matter where you are. I really hope they have some magic […]

I’m finally back in a zone where I can post news again and when I say ‘zone’ I mean it in the loosest sense of the word. I’ve had good coverage and equipment with me for my trip to the UK (including sitting on this ship to France) but due to the distractions of a superb wedding weekend in the UK to celebrate the marriage of my Sister i’ve been off the grid. Its been great! Over the next 24hrs i’ll be catching up with what’s happened over the last […]

That apple-red Dell netbook you may have spotted a few weeks ago is expected to be hitting the market in August, but its keyboard will be lacking a dedicated row of F-keys. For certain users this is nearly preposterous. However for some, such as myself, it isn’t that big of a deal. I personally could live without a dedicated row of function keys. I don’t use them frequently enough to justify a whole separate row. That being said, they should still be accessible through a modifier key which at this […]

There’s been a suprising lack of information from OEMs and resellers on the MID products during Computex. Or perhaps it isnt suprising. The netbooks mean more to the bottom line than MIDs this year! Intel realyed a snippet of news this afternoon via their ‘Chip Shots‘ blog. In a speach on the 4th, Anand Chandrasekher gave an update on the situation. Apparently everything is going to plan. OEMs are making progress and the software ecossytem is building steam. Sounds like a bit of PR-fill to me! Building on the IntelĀ® […]

Yes, the ultra-mobile PC sector can be ultra-flippin’ niche at times. Here’s a gaming-focused ultra mobile PC that includes a 3D screen! It appears to be a proof-of-concept by a company called Masterimage who have developed a 3D screen that can be used without glasses. [ref] Apart from that its fairly basic UMPC-territory with a 4.3″ 800×480 screen, 512MB RAM and a 30 or 60GB hard drive running XP on a VIA C7-M at 1.2Ghz. Apparently the joystick feels quite good although the screen looks like one of those ‘3D’ […]

Sascha has been busy today. Here’s his video of the G10IL which I haven’t seen launch info for yet. It looks like it might have an Express/34 slot. Or is it a card reader slot?

Fans of total mobile device convergence might want to check this out as it looks like an interesting alternative to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 that Kornel tested out a while back. VGA touchscreen, keyboard, HSDPA, 3.2MP CAM, rotation sensor and GPS running on a Qualcomm MSM 7201A @ 528MHz (ARM11+ARM9) platform running Windows Mobile 6.1. Available in Europe, late summer and in North America after that. With a little Opera 9.5 love this could keep a lot of people happy for a very long time! I think we should […]
