There it is! The first ever retail Menlow-based device to be unboxed. It’s Atom, but not as the Netbook-fans know it! Silverthorne and Poulsbo enable some serious notebook midgetry. Wow-Pow blog picked one up from Conics.net (which I think are one and the same people) and made a presentation video. It looks great. Smaller than any 7" notebook so far. Check out the video and then hop over to the site where there’s said to be some review action going on soon. How will Vista perform? Whats the battery life? […]

Energy efficiency is, without a doubt, the most important design factor for any pocketable Ultra Mobile device. On Friday this week, there are two very important launch events taking place that will highlight the advances made in energy efficient computing over the last year. The two devices will also show how us close Intel and ARM partners really are in the race to provide handheld, Internet-focused computers. MIDs. On one side of the fence, in PC land, Sharp and Willcom will release a pocketable slider-keyboard mobility-focused device. The Sharp Willcom […]

I have no doubt at all that this idea will raise the eyebrows of many an iPhone 3G owner. PimpMyultra mobile PC blogger Valto has put together a presentation of a concept he calls the eXtendr. In the presentation you’ll see a slider keyboard but it you read the article you’ll see that it’s not just a keyboard idea. The concept could be used to carry speakers and batteries a bit like the original iPaq jacket and, more recently, the Digifriends MID. Because this is the iPhone though, it somehow […]

Like most people, I’m a big fan of anything that will save time. I find that there are many shortcuts to assist us in the way we interact with our computers that will help us work more efficiently. Firefox is definitely my most used application and thus I utilize many of its tricks and shortcuts. A while back at MPCT, I shared a trick to help squeeze more bookmarks into your bookmark bar. This is especially helpful for mobile computers running at lower resolutions. Similarly, I hope this trick helps […]

Elonex highlighted 4 new devices at Computex. No-one reported seeing them and there were no ‘live’ images to be seen anywhere. One of the four has now been outed though. Its the OneT, which was advertised as the OneTwoLite at Computex. Specs are thin on the ground but The Register seem to think it will have a 400Mhz processor. Mmm. Its small, its cheap. I’m sure it find find a place somewhere. Could be useful as a remote desktop? If I ever get a full set of specs, I’ll add […]

Golem.de have done an excellent detailed review of the Aspire One 110. Good pictures too. It’s in German so I’ve picked out a few key points here and summarised them below. Battery is 26.6wh and lasting 3.25 hours in Wifi-on, medium backlight tests. (Minimum 1hr and 46 minutes under a 3DMark test.) Fan noise is more than Medion Akoya Mini / MSI Wind but still less than most standard notebooks. Glossy screen is a problem outside. Smaller than MSI Wind. Larger than Eee PC 900. The first intuitive clicks on […]

JKK knows the Eee PC’s like the back of his hand so if you’re interested in the 901 at all, head on over to his site. He’s got one with him on holiday (!) and plans to start testing and reporting. His first words are: Battery life is goood.. looks like easy 5 hours on my use. Eee 901 has the best battery life compared to other netbooks The question is, is it much better than the Eee PC 900 16G that’s going for $399 on Amazon.com? Details on the […]

As Joanna mentions in her article at Laptop Magazine, it takes a lot to stand out in the netbook market right now. Yesterday I went through my own thoughts on the top netbook devices and had to leave out the Dell E, Gigabyte M912X and ECS G10L. In the last 24-hours we’ve had the final specs and EU pricing for the M912X and see that its differentiating itself with the addition of a hi-res touchscreen, ExpressCard slot and large HDD. Today, we have the information that the ECS G10L will […]
