Pocketables have some new information on the latest Porient tablet, the H12. Compared to the earlier H9 model its smaller (4.8″ compared to 7″) and has no hard disk but it looks like its still running their Linux OS. With the relatively old Xscale processor (as seen on the original Pepper Pad a few years ago – a rather slow browsing device if I may say so) it doesn’t appear to be able to compete with devices like new $500-range, Viliv X5 which will be running XP on an Atom […]

I’m a very lucky person. There are about 8 UMPCs in the house at the moment but at times it gets to be a pain because I’m swapping around too much doing tests and trying out my latest ideas. Sometimes it’s almost impossible to choose a device. The SC3 because its small, has a good outdoor screen and looks good? The MSI Wind because its comfortable on a table or the Everun Note because its so damn small and powerful? Today though it was different and I really surprised myself. […]

Jkk, master of all Eee PCs, has put up a video review of the Eee 900A, one of the newest Atom powered Eees. Swing by his site to watch the whole video and listen to Jkk’s thoughts on the netbook.

With a total cost of 840 Euro, this isn’t a cheap way to buy a laptop and its not the first ever subsidised netboook on the market but if your’re like me and already pay 20 Euro per month and are thinking of a 35 Month contract as a standaone purchase, and only want a data contract with Vodafone or T-Mobile, it really is a free netbook worth considering. The question is, can I take the SIM card out and use it in other devices? T-Mobile Germany who have arguably […]

It is nice to see a ultra mobile PC in the recent sea of netbooks. UMPCPortal forum user SlickRick has come across the NOVA Side Arm 2 (Chippy jokes in his mini blog, “…not ARM based!”), a new ultra mobile PC which easily reminds me of the Panasonic CF-U1. It looks thinner than the CF-U1 but I still wouldn’t call it pretty; it is certainly an industry machine rather than consumer, which makes it odd that some of their photos have a high-school-age girl showing off the product. The keyboard […]

How about this for an ultra mobile gadget? There’s no confirmed specs, pricing or availability yet but I’m loving the idea of having a mini projector for my UMPC. It obviously has a video-input (fingers crossed for VGA) and can play back some content from an internal or SD Card memory. You could create havoc in a nightclub! I’ll see if we can get one of these for a test from the Adapt Mobile people.

Laptop Magazine, Hardware Canucks and Hardware Zone have all now published full reviews of the Gigabyte M912V, the 1280×768 version of the Gigabyte Netbook. Nothing surprises me in any of the reviews. Laptop Mag, who published their review last month) highlights the battery life and the screen resolution as problem points along with small keyboard and lack of touch software. Hardware Canucks picks up on the same issues. Hardware Zone who, like LaptopMag, had a Vista version, highlights some exceptionally high battery drain figures. I agree with most of the […]

Checking out a mini-review by Andario, one of our members on the forums today made me realise that I should put together my own objective long-term review of the Akoya Mini that I’ve been using off and on for a while. It deserves it as its been working well and trouble free since I queued up for it at the beginning of July. I’ve already called the Akoya Mini ‘near perfect’ and I haven’t changed my mind. Having played with most of the netbooks its clear that it hits the […]
