MIDs are Here….and Here….and Here.

Posted on 22 October 2008, Last updated on 11 November 2019 by

aigo Intel has just published a list of the currently and nearly-available MIDs along with regions and store names to help you track one down. It would be nice to see more regions and more products but this is a great start and I hope they keep up the process of publishing info like this. Customers are crying out for it!

You’ll find the Aigo (China), Benq S6 (Italy), Clarion (Q4 in the U.S.A.) Fujitsu U2010 (not in Europe) Kohjinsha SC3 (Japan, APAC), Lenovo U8 (China-only), Panasonic CFU1 (projects only) and Willcom D4 (Japan.)

Conspicuous by its absence is the Gigabyte M528.

The full list and details can be found on the Intel Software Network blogs.

since when is the U2010 a MID ? Its a UMPC surely

  2. Mike Cane says:

So WTF is the deal with that Gigabyte now? Anyone know?! You are Chippy, dammit. People tell you things.

  3. Chippy says:

One tip I had said November. One said ‘maybe’ by the end of the year. Neither are good!

  4. Vikenty says:

One day we’ll have MID with EDGE (and maybe WiMAX) in Moscow…

  5. ecsk2 says:

Doesn’t MTS offer 3G GSM already in Moscow?

  6. deriuqer says:

Gigabyte M528,LG XNote B831 and Wibrain M1 get the new Moorestone, therefore the delay.

At least I hope so. :)

PS: I also think Fujitsu U2010 is a UMPC not a MID but since MIDs getting closer to UMPCs these two device categories will melt together soon.

  7. Papinymph says:

They need to provide some real support is what they need to do.. Some freakin’ drivers for xp so these mids can be useful.

The webpage at http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2008/10/22/where-can-you-find-a-mid/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

Worked for me when this was posted as well as right now!?

  14. kc says:

my bad. i’m able to view it from my laptop but not this PC, though i have no problem to post a comment to umpcprotal…..

What browser? You tried to REFRESH?

  16. Fixup says:

That blog is garbage, without any information, she has no idea what she’s talking about. For example, she listed Staples as where to find a U2010. As others in this thread have pointed out, she does not even know what’s a MID.

  17. kc says:

    i heard it’s a “he”

  18. ecsk2 says:

You know what they say “garbage in -> garbage out”, I have to say your comment “she has no idea what she’s talking about” is a tad ironic because:

    A) I assume you are talking about AMANDA who was the first one to COMMENT on the post, just like you are commenting on here now. So SHE has nothing to do with the post as such that is clearly “By Jeff Moriarty” as stated at the top, if you want to learn more about JEFF you can do so here: http://blogs.intel.com/it/authors
    Yes it’s a HE not a SHE :)

    B) Fixup if you’re going to accuse someone of something please check your own facts first :)

    C) You might want to figure out WHERE Jeff works, and WHO invented the term MID before you accuse HIM (not her) of not knowing what MID means LOL :)

Just because the device(s) aren’t on Staples website at this point (when they NONE of these really are marketed by any real/major US retailers yet) doesn’t mean they won’t be offering them! I’m sure an Intel employee has access to more specific pre-launch marketing information than most of us commenters on here!

  19. kyuss says:

    don’t bother about fixup…

this guy has nothing to contribute, apart from spam..

  20. ecsk2 says:

OK if you say so :)
It is a bit amusing though… so it does have an entertainment value! :)

  21. Jeff Moriarty says:

Sorry for the delayed reply, but thanks! :) I’d like to think if I got anything right in the blog, it was my gender!

MIDs are an interesting term, and I get into fun discussions about it all the time. Intel may have started it, but it has definitely evolved and take on a life of its own.

The information I posted was something from our internal product group. If there are any questions about any of the info I’m happy to take it back to the people who made it and ask them for clarification.

    Cheers!

  22. Chippy says:

Don’t for get that Intel calls everything a mobile internet device from atom-smartphones to high-end UMPCs.
Its the opposite of what I call everything – a UMPCs (with MID, pro-mobile and netbook subcategories.) DOn’t worry about the labeling, no one except marketeers uses it! Everyone else searches for product names!

  23. ecsk2 says:

Ok if you say so :)

  24. fixup says:

If Staples is currently not carrying the U2010, there should be a mark like “coming soon”.

Even if Staples is going to carry it, it’ll be overly priced for sure.

As far as I know, the only local stores would carry the U2010 should be Fry’s that have been selling the U810 (at very good price too). I never saw U810 in any other stores like BestBuy or CircuitCity.

  25. ecsk2 says:

    Fixup,

    <>

Are you part of the Fujistsu marketing team, since you say “SHOULD BE” or what authority do you hold on the matter? Last I checked privately owned companies in the USA are still allowed to post products or NOT post products to their website however they feel fit, or am I mistaken, has the US government bought up Staples too since I last checked??! :)

    <>

I thought you made the point that Staples will NOT carry this product in question??

    <>

How far DO you know? :)
Yeah why would the LARGEST OFFICE SUPPLY COMPANY IN THE WORLD (Staples) with some 2000 stores in some 27 countries be allowed to sell it?? Fry’s electronics is a very small company (despite your local perception) with some 30 stores TOTAL, out of which SIX of those are in its “native” Silicon Valley. One has stores in almost 30 countries the other has 30 stores, there is a slight difference you know. Common since you’re posting on here you’re obviously connected to the internet, why not GOOGLE some of the facts before you post?? :) I mean that’s all I did, I didn’t know Staples was the largest company of it’s sort in the world, I knew it was huge compared to little Frys though, but thanks to you I looked it up! ;)

Oh on the Circuit City, I will let you Google that one and you’ll see how much you will be buying at CC in the future :) You might want to start on Google’s NEWS site :)

  26. ecsk2 says:

OK well the double didnt work as quotes I just learned another thing :)

  27. ecsk2 says:

    Double “” that is!!

  28. ecsk2 says:

I am talking about the double <>

  29. ecsk2 says:

    Xin,

Remember what I said about CIRCUIT CITY?
