The new 8.9" touchscreen Classmate PC that LaptopMag got some time with isn’t going to be most people’s cup of tea, but that’s probably because it’s not aimed at most people reading tech websites! There’s a few elements that are worth highlighting though. Trend. A lot of netbook manufacturers are now talking about touch-screens. Is this a trend that will take off in the mainstream or will it be confined to niche segments of buyer. Will we see slate designs as the next step? Touch enhancements. Thought and effort is […]

Update: The WiBrain site is back. (Thanks jANjALANi.) Maybe we shook them up a bit because I now have some news about the i1. Coming later… After delays on the WiBrain i1 and the disappearance of our usual contact-point within WiBrain, I was a bit suspicious that something was going on. Mobilx don’t have the original B1 models on offer any more and now it seems like the whole WiBrain website has been taken away. Fingers crossed that this is just a short-term problem and that we’ll see the i1 […]

The U2010 / U820 is one amazing bit of tech. At just around 600gm, with an 1280×800 5.6″ screen, tiny convertible-screen form factor and an level amazing power efficiency it represents the leading edge of pro-mobile UMPCs. But it’s expensive.

As I said a few days ago, Android is now as the point where it’s past the point of just being an interestingly-branded OS. The ecosystem is growing and the development community is growing. One of the things I’m really looking forward to is a MID running the OS. Others are thinking the same. Here’s a video from meizirkki. This is the N810 running android. Its obviously working but it looks like it needs a bit more oomph to make it usable. Check out the details at Guug.org […]

Japan’s population is about 128 million people so to say that one in 25 will buy a MID in 2012, just over 3 years away, seems a little surprising. Even more surprising is the prediction that, together with 18 million smartphone sales, the MID/Smartphone segment will form about 40% of the total handset market meaning MIDs would be 10% of the total handset market. However, the definition of a MID that has been used seems slightly off-mark and puts the average screen size at 3.5 inches. I could understand an […]

We’re double-checking that this really is a no-contract price but so far, it looks like the same deal as UMPCPortal reader Alberto had when he bought one. For a 3g-enabled PC its a great deal. Hell, at that price you could just by one for the coffee table…if you don’t mind an on-screen keyboard. Shame its only available in Italy. More details and links for the S6 in the product pages. Thanks Fab!
