Another OQO 2+ arrives.

Posted on 19 January 2009

There are still some devices  winging their way over to  Europe but I was lucky and got the  OQO 2+  delivered this morning. Within 1 minute of closing the door on Mr UPS, I was  filming…. I’ve turned on the device and tested through to see if everything is working and the first thing I’ve set up is a new grab-and-go desktop at home… So far I’m impressed with its processing power and (64GB SSD) disk speed. The Vista experience is fine and I’m easily able to multitask with multiple […]

Preparing OQO Model 2+ for MID Moves

Posted on 19 January 2009

When Six Flags Magic Mountain opens at 10:30 am (PST) today, my husband and I will be waiting at the gates with my OQO Model 2+ setup. Battery life, which I’ll discuss in detail later, will definitely be an issue that’ll affect how I use the device during the day, but I chose to start my tour with the Model 2+ because of how easy it was to “get ready.” One of the best things about running full-blown Windows on a handheld device like the new Atom-based OQO is the […]

Keyboard backlighting great on airplanes

Posted on 19 January 2009

Without a truly usable way to input data, mobiles devices are only good for consuming information. But with a fantastic hardware keyboard like the one on the OQO Model 2+, creating content is quick, easy, and comfortable. I spent a solid hour on my flight to California tonight thumb typing on the device and enjoying the fact that the bright backlight let me work without disturbing anyone with the “personal” reading light above my seat.

Hilarious. Engadget hates/likes UMPCs!

Posted on 19 January 2009

Is it because it’s Sunday? A few days ago Engadget posted a rather sarcastic item about the Loam F7. Actually it was spot-on from the consumer perspective because, quite frankly, it looks cheap. The hilarious part of the story comes when they post about the Viliv X70, a device that has similar specs. Maybe we’re just hot for sleek, thin, ultra sexy renders of handheld computing devices, but we dare anyone to call the unit pictured above unsightly (and mean it). Shortly after showcasing its swiveling S7 at CES, Viliv […]

Closing down PC and broadband for a week. Working as usual.

Posted on 18 January 2009

In a few hours, the MID Moves project officially gets into gear. Jenn is already on her way to California where she’ll be getting the ball rolling with her OQO 2+, Benq S6 and Willcom D4. Then, on Tuesday, i’ll be feeding in along with Nicole and Ewan. As a little side project I’d thought I would close down not only my home PC and netbook but also my broadband Internet connection. Using the XP-based MIDs (some confusion there I know – Intel tends to put UMPCs under the MID […]

Waiting for my gadgets …

Posted on 18 January 2009

While the rest of the gang already has gazillion gadgets with them which are fit for mobile exploration, I am still waiting for my delivery. Not really sure what I will be getting and that is a rather unusual perspective for me. Usually I am the one organizing the stuff and distributing, something I am sure most of you will recognize from how to deal with your family and their gadgets. :) All I know is that my gadgets will be the Compal/Aigo MID and the Clarion MiND which is […]

Inside my gear bag

Posted on 18 January 2009

Since I believe that a person can never have too many gadgets, I tend to overpack them when I travel. I haven’t quite made up my mind about whether I think it’s a problem yet, so when I began packing for my tour this afternoon, it wasn’t long before my table was covered with devices, chargers, cords, and accessories. I second-guessed some of my choices but eventually put everything I instinctively grabbed in my bag, partially because lugging around 10+ pounds of electronics is really only an issue at the […]
