Today’s experiment is a test of live geo-blogging and tracking. On the top image, [Now removed] you’ll see me live. You might also catch some comments and images that I take. In the image below, i’ll be creating the ‘tour.’ track and linking in my audio, images and text. This will require manual updates to see the latest info. Update. Live image has now been removed and all media placed in the mashup. Some tracks were lost but for a first attempt at a live media mashup, im pleased. The […]

Akihabara have a Sony Vaio P and have posted the unboxing pics. I would post a teaser here but it looks like their site is getting a hammering from the P-fans. We’ll update this when we get through. Sony Vaio P Unboxing… Do You Think I’m Sexy? : Akihabara News .com.

I had this send over from someone that was reading the OQOTalk forums. I guess this is one from a design competition that I missed. Its obviously a rendering as I don’t think it’s physically possible to get a screen border that thin yet and the resolution looks way too high. It’s difficult to get a feel for the sizing of it too as there are no reference points on the image. If the membrane keyboard was soft-touch, it could be used nicely in one hand but it, somehow, looks […]

Before it gets too late and CES becomes a distant memory, I wanted to thank all the bloggers that were out in CES providing detailed news, images and videos for the rest of the world to see and enjoy. You kept us busy for many many hours here at UMPCPortal (I’m still not able to sleep in my local timezone yet!) and it was almost impossible to keep up with all the content at times. Special thanks goes to Sascha Pallenberg, Jenn Lee and Kevin Tofel who all called in […]

I ordered one of these earlier this week and it should be here tomorrow. The idea is to try and use it for live video work with UMPCs. It’s got auto focus and a LED lamp but the build, lens, sensitivity and drivers are all unknowns. If everything works out, it should work out well for handheld UMCP and live Ustream work. Product details here. I paid 30 Euro on Amazon.de for it. Don’t order until i’ve tested it ;-) Update: Mads has done some research into snake-cams. Thanks!

One advantage of running an Intel-sponsored MID event is that I get some nice kit to play with. In fact, the whole team gets some nice kit to play with on the tour. Between Jenn, Nicole, Ewan and myself we’ve got 4 different MIDs to test out. The Compal MID (not sure which ‘brand’ this will be yet) the Benq S6, the ClarionMiND and the OQO 2+. There’ll be 2 of each to be shared out and I’m getting an OQO 2+ and a Clarion Mind. The devices have been […]

I was really looking forward to hitting up 10 countries next week on my MIDMoves tour but alas, roaming 3G data costs have killed the idea. With daily roaming ‘offers’ at 15 Euro for 50MB and per MB costs coming in at between 2 Euro and 4 Euro it won’t be possible to do this while I’m Internet connected. Wifi hotspots won’t be enough to fill in the gaps either so rather than go off on a jolly where no-one can see me, I’ve sent back the inter-rail ticket and […]

On my new project over at MIDMoves.com, i’m talking about how i’m going to Geo-enable my part of the tour. Obviously it’s something i’m very interested in but there’s a long long way to go before this stuff becomes easy enough for the the mainstream customers. Here’s the list of what i’m trying to achieve. Location. Where am I now? Exactly? Turn-by-turn, step by step. Where do I need to go. How long will it take? Public transport. Where is it? When does it depart and arrive? Phototagging. Ensuring that […]
