Move Networks have been working with Intel for a while now. I last saw them at IDF where I had a great demo of their adaptive streaming service on a MID. The player was well-designed and with a back-channel in use, the client and server were able to adapt to changing network conditions and provide the best quality stream for the current bandwidth. The player also supported hardware decoding of the H.264 stream which meant that it was efficient and able to support some very impressive quality levels. Move Networks […]

The word ‘concept’ is not an easy word to write here. I want to say ‘product coming’ instead! This image is from Pocketables.net who have a few more that you should take a look at. I have a feeling that by using the best available display technology and platforms like Menlow designers could come up with some incredible umpcs and e-reader devices. And when I say connected e-reader devices I mean everything from locally stored ebooks and PDFs to live webpages. The modern-day newspaper. I’m imagining a slick UI and […]

Gottabemobile have just posted a video presentation of the new Atom-powered OQO and the device is really looking great. The famous coral reef demo is played and it doesnt stutter at all thanks to the hardware h.264 decoding built in. Paired with the OLED screen and the touchscreen this device is going to make a lot of people happy. Heres the video embedded for your viewing pleasure: I wonder if JKK ordered one yet ;)

VRLabs just tipped me off on an article they have about Zii. ‘Stem Cell Computing’ is the tag-line that Creative are using and the product appears to be a processing engine built around two ARM9 cores aimed at a wide range of consumer focused products. Its difficult to tell exactly if it’s a single chip computer or a complete computer ecosystem including hardware and software but just by looking at some of the marketing images, it’s clear that one of it’s target markets is low-cost connected and media devices. MIDs. […]

Jenn over at Pocketables is doing her best of capturing spy shots of yet to be opened CES booths. She has some new pictures of Intel’s MID display up, so go check it out at her site. There are quite a few devices up there, including the err beautiful pink WiBrain which I’m sure many will drool over completely ignore. Anyways, heres the link.

The tech world is practically in a state of euphoria because of the new Vaio P, and its not hard to see why. Its an amazing looking small netbook, with quality components and features. What more do you need? The size comes with drawbacks however. While Sony is boasting 4 hours battery life which practically every news site around the world has relayed, these battery estimates are never accurate. While it may be in theory possible to squeeze that amount of processing out of the device it wont be under […]

Could this be considered a MID? Engadget has gotten hands on with this mini tablet running Android and are pretty impressed. They describe it as an Android running iPod touch, although that’s not a very good comparison in my opinion. The device has a 4.3 inch 480×272 resistive touchscreen (you will probably need a stylus) and a software keyboard. There is also a front facing webcam and built in microphone and speakers so Skype is definitely possible. To me the closest thing this compares to is Nokia’s N800, especially with […]
