Wherever they are, at any time of the day, in almost any situation, microbloggers are using the Internet alongside dedicated software, a distribution platform and pocketable hardware to post their message in a quick and concise way. They wouldnt be able to do what they do without the mobile Internet. Almost everyone I spoke to at MBC09 in the last few days had a data plan on their phone and many were using 3G on their netbooks. These fast-moving microbloggers are big consumers of the mobile Internet. 140 characters of […]

People following me on twitter saw me trying to get my hands on the MID devices, but it was a bumby ride – let’s just say that transport by seaturtles across the atlantic might have been faster. ;) Nonetheless I got my toys in time for my trip to the Microblogging conference in Hamburg this weekend. You probably saw Steve mention this conference before and might ask yourselve why this was so interesting to Midmoves. Well take a look at this: Twitter- and Microblogging fans are the kind of people […]

A few days late, but I’m ready to start my portion of the Mid Moves tour. My two devices have made their tortuous route from CES at Las Vegas, across the Atlantic, through the Fed Ex depot at Stanstead Airport, waited in a draft warehouse on the edge of Edinburgh, and into my hands. I’ll properly introduce the devices (the Compal MID and BenQ S6) at the start of the first and third days, but before then I wanted to give you a little taste of what I’m planning. As […]

Interesting post over at electronicpulp. Is acer working on a MID? Im excited. Not for the MID, although it looks slim and nicely designed, but to see what price they pitch it at. How will they postion it alongside the Acer Aspire. Acer working on its very own Mobile Internet Device (MID) — Electronic Pulp

I’m no stranger to presenting this type of mobile technology to potential end users. Any device that sits between a laptop and a smartphone and offer computing capability that crosses over with these other categories is hard to explain. I usually take a different tack with MIDs and UMPCs which goes something like this. If its a UMPC, its for pro users. Its for people that want, and can benefit from having a PC with them even if they don’t think they need it. For the MIDs I tend to […]

News from Kevin Kang at CNet Asia. Up from a previously announced price and a little more than I wanted to see is the $575, KRW 799,000, Korean price of the Lluon Mobbit UMPC. Additional information I can give out those Korean MIDs, Viliv and UMID also about to launch their S5 and M1 within February here in Korea. Some more info over at CNet but before you go there , tell us what you think of the price. 3G ultra mobile PC with XP for around $600. Good or […]

I spent the final day of my tour talking about Intel-based MIDs/UMPCs and mobile computing to anyone I came across who 1) looked approachable, 2) didn’t reject the request they didn’t let me explain as soon I said “excuse me,” and 3) wanted to know more about the three devices (OQO Model 2+, BenQ S6, Willcom/Sharp D4) my husband and I were already holding so we didn’t scare anyone by reaching into our bags while walking toward them. After 7 hours, 6 locations, and a lot of strange looks and […]

I’m beginning to doubt that I really do have an OLED screen on the OQO 2+ here because the power drain test I just performed showed some relativelt poor results. I knew that OLED screens could be tweaked for power or brightness but I didn’t expect to see so much of a difference in my power-drain test results. There really isn’t any power advantage over LED in this case and with amazing LED-backlit screens like the one on the Wibrain, you wonder why they did it. Did I just hear […]
