Unboxing The Compal

For the first two days of my MID Moves tour, I’ll be using the Compal MID device. It arrived in a fantastically matt black box which reminded me of a nice bottle of Laphroig.

Alas no whisky, but some of the latest technology from Intel…

The Compal is used as a base for many commercial MID units, has an 800mhz Intel Atom processor, with an 800×480 sized screen and weighs 340 grams.

Hehe, that is tempting, but I have one of the best multi-plugs in my kitbag. I’m demoing that Monday morning via video, stay tuned.

It’s a little disappointing to see the pointer lingering on the screen. It really gives me the feeling that it might be touch optimized, but it’s not really a touch operating system from the ground up.

Briggs, indeed the pointer is a strange addition I mustdig out a mouse (USB or bluetooth) and see if that works. Optimized for touch might be the best description yet.
