There wasn’t much in the press conference about the Seashell and there’s not much in the press release either. So we’re looking at a 10″ display obviously and 1.1KG making it a very light 10″er. Notice the news about the docking bar and the inclusion of Draft-N Wifi and 3G. This is clearly going to be an Atom-based device, but which one?

JKKMobile will have a brief video of the 1008HA very soon but here’s the image set I took at the ASUS press Conference. Its a slick looking device but there’s no real info on specs at this stage. It looks like the battery is sealed-in too. Full set of images in the gallery.

As you might have seen from the ‘tweets’ and Flickr photos, we spent some time at the Intel Pavillion as they were setting up. One of the highlights was the Viliv S7, the ‘netvertible’ with the 1.8Ghz Atom processor and long battery life. Fortunately for us, the battery was charged and we were able to get a good video down. The UI isn’t complete yet but you can see that Viliv are aiming for a UI that is very similar to the Origami Experience. The keyboard is high quality and […]

We hit the ASUS booth today and WOW! About 30% of it was dedicated to the Eee PC brand. From keyboard PCs to Skype phones and every variation of netbook in between. Quite a sight to see. Here’s a video of the ASUS T91Go the 3G/SSD version of the ASUS T91 [specifications]. The sky-lighting made it impossible to get a good shot of the user interface but you get to see the device from every angle. JKK does a good job of talking through it too.

The alpha SDK for the new Maemo 5 platform has just been released and is packing some interesting new things. Most notably the new UI framework is now available for developers to code around, and as stated “provides a simple and beautiful experience with a finger based full screen context.” Developers are urged to follow this new UI style to keep a consistent user interface. This release only contains a simplified UI implementation of the Desktop and Application menus, with full versions to follow in the future. As for planned […]

intelmobilty, originally uploaded by steve-chippy. This is the display at the Intel booth. There’s nothing new here except the working S5 and S7. The UMID was working until it ran out! we’ve taken a few videos which will be up later. First impressions on the S7 are good. loved the positioning of the touchpad. perfect for two-handed work.

Everything is packed, I’m on the train, connected and in contact with team ‘MeetMobility’ (JKK and Sascha) for the start of our CeBIT 2009 coverage. This year we’re sponsored by our friends from Mobilx.eu so make sure you check out their website (i’m expecting them to put up prices for the Viliv S5 and UMID M1 very soon) while you’re waiting for the next post. You can also check out the latest ‘micro’ blogs which will fill you in on what’s going on in the background. Check out the center […]

Welcome to this week’s netbook roundup. In this space every Monday I’ll highlight netbook news items that might not need their own individual posts but are still be interesting. Dell Mini 10 dissected — Dell support released a guide for disassembling the Dell Mini 10 [Portal page]. Looks like there are some PCI-e slots which will be good for modding, but RAM is soldered to the mobo which will make it very hard for users to do RAM upgrades. HP Promises a Fix for Mini 1000 Webcam Woes — HP […]
