Over the ah’s and ohs over the day I took the chance to stand at the window with Simon Salt (@incslinger) who gave me some great feedback how it felt to have this mid device in his hands for the first time. And see how those guys fighting in the Lego pit ruin a good antenna! :)) Also featuring CC Chapman or “do I have to go to Korea”? As you will see in the video later posted, we could have sold a ton of those different mids here.

It is pretty amazing how well some people can draw up concepts for the future. Engadget is reporting that the mysterious VAIO P-like computer, that we showed you a few days ago, is in fact a two year old concept design. Pretty cool to think that Lenovo came up with this concept two years ago; recent leaks of the image had people assuming that Lenovo was going to try to move into the VAIO P [Portal page] space with their own premium device. Unfortunately, it looks like at this point […]

Strange things happen when there’s a lot of beautiful devices around and a lot of time to play with them. The Viliv S5 was riding high on my personal list of faves but there’s something about the on-screen keyboard I cant get used to. I’m reaching a barrier with it and I think its something to do with the amount of thought needed to remain consistent with the on-screen keyboard. Its a tough learning curve that doesnt seem to be flattening out and considering the amount of content I create […]

What a pleasure it is to be able to talk about MIDs to people that are open to new techniques and new tools. What a great learning experience it was and what a boost to my confidence about the MID and ultra mobile PC markets when 99% of people didn’t even know that these devices are starting to hit the market. It proves that that theres a good marketing opportunity out there and when you hear comments like ‘can I buy one from you’ and ‘I so need one of […]

Welcome to this week’s netbook roundup. In this space every Monday I’ll highlight netbook news items that might not need their own individual posts but may still be interesting. 9 Cell Acer Aspire One battery good for nearly 9 hours If you are looking for an ugly, but effective super-battery, one has become available for the Acer Aspire One. These are third party batteries, but could give you one hour of run-time per cell (that’s 9 hours, for the math challenged). Need help deciding what kind of device you have? […]

One of the most important aspects of the Sony VAIO P is its tiny size. Sony always pushes the envelope when it comes to seeing how small they can package a full PC. Their VAIO UX line and ultra-portable laptops are a fine example of that. Sony has taken the top end of the Atom platform, and put it inside an almost envelope sized package along with some premium hardware. The top end VAIO P that I’m evaluating (thanks to Dynamism) runs at 1.86GHz, with 2GB of RAM, and a […]

As time draws closer and closer to the time when Intel’s Moorestown platform is due to be released, I’ve been looking around at some of the concepts that they have been showing over the last year to get an idea of what we’ll see when the Moorestown platform hits. Moorestown is a platform for an upcoming set of devices that will blur the lines between smartphones and MIDs. Chippy used the term ‘MIDphone’ not long ago in an article about a voice capable software stack that would be making its […]
