I was able to get XP on the Mini 1000 [Portal page][review] and I did a quick Crystal Mark benchmark. This is a fully updated SP3 machine. Here are the results: The HDD score is disappointing. The HP Mini 1000 that I have has a 16GB SSD, and that should be at least as fast as a standard 1.8 inch HDD, but it scores pretty below that level. Not too bad otherwise considering the price of the hardware, and the build quality of the unit, but it is still kind […]

While the others were in a keynote here at SXSWi I had the chance to take a few images of the UMID MBook and run CrystalMark Fast SSD goodness. And it really shows in the usability of the device because it not only boots quickly but is noticeably faster in normal operations. Check out the details and full image set in the gallery!

I bumped into a keen mobile computing fan yesterday who promptly whipped out her flip cam and interviewed me. It wasn’t until after that I found out it was Jemima Kiss from my favorite newspaper, The Guardian.

As you probably know, Chippy made the jump across the big puddle to attend this years South by Southwest in Austin Texas. SXSW started as a music festival many years ago, but has since evolved into much, much more. A good bit of SXSW involves showing off new media trends. That is of course why Chippy is there this week, showing people who have been lugging around 17 inch laptops that there is a pocketable alternative in the form of a MID. Chippy has tons of MIDs to show around; […]

Just using the mids has a very similar reaction with most people we encounter: “I want this” or as CC Chapman said “do I have to Korea to get this?”. Most of the people we encountered only had to take a quick look to realize what they had there, and I think this is one of the key elements I take away from this whole midmoves tour: Give the people more access to the tools and gadgets, let them play with it and ‘be in awe’. After fetching “my” OQO […]

It’s been a long time coming, but someone finally managed to throw some 3G into their Sony VAIO UX ultra mobile PC [Portal page]. It is simple to use a USB dongle, but when you have the know-how, why not make it a challenge to fit everything inside the UX’s tiny case? I’m really impressed that there is even room to add anything inside the UX as the device is already so small and packed full of hardware. User Oginger1 of MicroPCTalk has managed to put a Huawei E169G USB […]

Msybe its the jet-lag or maybe its just the radio-waves flying around here from the constant mobile internet activity but im definitely feeling something special here. SXSW has started and im getting ready to meet up with Intel. Ive chosen the Fujitsu U820 as my weapon this morning and so far its working well and raising some eyebrows. Perfect for opening up discussions about mobile Internet.
