Netbooknews.de have posted a video via (PDA.pl) from ARM that shows the Wistron Netbook, a thin, Sony Vaio-like netbook baed on the Quallcom Snapdragon CPU and running Linux. Jump to the action at 2:32

I really realy want to get my hands on a snapdragon-based device as soon as possible. I want to feed back to you all on the real-world browsing speed and capabilities.

I loved the lightness and thinness of the VAIO P, but couldn’t stand the keyboard and pointer. Maybe this will improve on that? Tantalizing.

  3. EC says:

Keyboard I like on the P, but I agree 100% on the trackstick!

  4. suchus says:

Personally I found the TG01 part of the video far more interesting, than the presentation of just another lousy Netbook.

  5. Chippy says:

Why did you think it was lousy? Just wondering.

  6. EC says:

Lousy presentation or lousy Netbook? I feel that aside from the ARM there’s nothing new with this one, now that Sony has already come out with the super-wide concept.

  7. suchus says:

There are so many different netbooks available, and a lot of them with much better specs. So, who needs this one?
In general I’m not too happy how everything developed with netbooks.
Meanwhile these cheap devices blocking the way for much more innovative technologies (e.g. Intel’s MID development).
Maybe I should have said that I don’t like Netbooks in general, and not just this specific one.

  8. Vakeros says:

Actually the two other devices looked the most interesting. One looks like a Smartphone, the other a PMP but I guess could be a MID.

  9. suchus says:

These devices are the Toshiba TG01 smartphone, which should be available this summer (at least in Europe). With its 1GHz Snapdragon platform it´s gonna be a very interesting device. I just hope the battery life won´t be too bad, because the TG01 is so thin, that there´s probably not much space left for the battery.

  10. Chippy says:

Lack of keyboard annoys me too. Battery and keyboard need to be there for me.

  11. suchus says:

    Totally agree with you.

  12. EC says:

I like the MID or whatever it is supposed to be called. But the “NetBook” I am sorry that thing is just HUGE for my taste, for me thinness alone or volume only doesn’t define a NetBook or else we need to consider the Vaio P and MacBook Air as NetBooks too, and I don’t feel they are nor does Sony & Apple.

Firstbook believed to have 11.1 screen, OUCH ELEVEN!? NO THANKS!

It is a little ironic how this thing is getting closer to the Psion netBook with it’s ARM processor setup, however even the Psion product had a reasonable (in my opinion) 7.7″ screen size.

  13. Chippy says:

Remember that’s diagonal diagonal on a super-wide ratio. A bit misleading as a screen area figure.

    S.

  14. EC says:

You’re actually contradicting yourself now, the “super-wide ratio” only makes it even WIDER with this 11″ screen, and NON super-wide 11″ Netbook would be LESS wide :)

Bottomline I don’t want anything with 11″ in any direction :)

  15. EC says:

I just measured my DellBook :) Mini 9 and it’s under 11″ (barely) diagonally the WHOLE THING! :)

  16. EC says:

Is this not the same “Netbook”?
    http://www.engadget.com/photos/arms-stash-of-netbook-oddities-and-a-windows-mobile-6-5-mid-1/

Aside from being ARM based, I can’t see what so special about it, I’d expect an ARM based to be super thin/small and great battery time, but this sure isn’t anything small!?

  17. Pixel Qi fan in waiting... says:

You know that if this has a Pixel Qi screen that is readable in direct sunlight and allows for 5 fold battery use per charge (and if they also incorporate touch screen)… that would be what I want.

  18. Chippy says:

    Pixel Qi fan in waiting
    AFAIK your information is incorrect.
A pixel-qi screen would, at maximum, save about 50% battery life. (double battery life.)

Remember that efficient netbooks of this size run in 5-10W power and a normal screen would be taking, on average, 2W. If you swapped the screen out for something that took zero power (near to black and white mode on pixel Qi) you would save between 2/10 and 2/5 power. Thats vastly different from what you are claiming.

  19. Ben says:

Am I the only one who thinks it sounds like he is saying “PurseBook” instead of Firstbook?

  20. Morganj says:

You’re not the only one, i watched this about 5 times and i’m sure he’s saying “pursebook”.

  21. EC says:

I believe you have just figured out what the “P” stands for in Sony Vaio P :)

  22. Gadgety says:

Yep, liked the TG01 too. Fantastic graphics. And I want a WinMo phone. Anyone here has got experience with Tosh mobile phones? Thing is, if I run into trouble with an HTC phone there’s always the extremely helpful XDA-developers community. What is there for a Tosh TG01 owner?

  23. EC says:

What are you looking to do as you want a WinMo phone?
