I just reported that Mobilx have the Eking i1 available to order and now they tell me the Clevo TN70M is coming too. It’s raining new devices today! The TN70M is a device that JKK and I tested over a year ago at CeBIT 2008 (video) and we were very interested in the specs. How does it look today though? The TN70M reminds me of the Kohjinsha SA5, the touchscreen version of the SA1, a pre-netbook device I used for blogging at CeBIT 2007. It’s an 800×480 convertible touchscreen device […]

Here’s my overview and opinion on the UMID MBook M1 in 12 points and a seven minute video. It highlights what I think are the most important things you should be thinking about if you’re looking to buy it.

Smaller than I thought it would be and looking well designed (as always with Samsung devices) it’s the Samsung Q1-EX being reviewed by VIA’s ‘How To Be Mobile’ crew. LaptopMag reviewed this recently and weren’t too impressed that the split mini thumboard was missing but as I said before, I think this one is targeted at a specific industry segment where it will fit perfectly with dedicated software. It may not be the perfect consumer ultra mobile PC but I’m eager to test it out with my ‘business’ hat on […]

Where else would two English people at The Next Web Conference bump into each other but the tea-making facilities! Sarah Blow and I had a quick chat while we made our ‘cuppa’s’ and quickly determined that we were both mobile tech fans. I found out later that Sarah is the founder of Girl Geek Dinners, a very successful global community of like-minded women that regularly meet for presentations and discussions on different technology subjects. She’s also the community manager for Fav.or.it, the company that runs the useful TweetMeme service. After […]

This is very sad. Three hours ago I recorded a video highlighting how the original Origami concept is now being realised with 3rd-generation UMPCs (will be posted tomorrow) an now, via a blog entry by Frank at UltraMobilePCTips, I learn that Origamiproject.com, the riginal Microsoft-sposored forum, is being closed down. There’s a huge range of interesting articles there that I’d hate to see get thrown into the bin. Including some of my own content. (Do I still own my own content?) I’d hate to see this resource die so I’m […]

On of the key features of the UMID Mbook M1, apart from the processing power, form factor and battery life, is the speed of the SSD. What better way to demonstrate it than to show a boot sequence. Here’s proof that it boots in 30 seconds from pressing the button to being able to se the start menu. The OS is Windows XP Home with about 30 processes running. Update: One correction on the video; the UMID weighs 338gm (measured), not 490gm as shown on the video. Detailed info, including […]
