I’m sitting on the ICE high speed train from Amsterdam to Düsseldorf on the return journey of a combined 6-day business and pleasure trip that has been a big test for the GigabyteT1028M. Gigabytes newest netbook has been in backpakcs, friends houses, in exhibition halls, in cafes, trains and hotels. It’s been used for email, blogging, photo editing, video editing and website administration connected via both WiFi and the retro-fitted 3G module (a Mobilx extra) that uses the built-in SIM slot and 3G antenna. Right now, as I think about […]

I love competition. A company drops a device like the iPhone 3G integrating some great hardware, and quite soon after, all the other players realize that they need to update their own hardware to catch up. Welcome the new Sidekick LX into the competitor’s corner. The Sidekick has been exclusively on T-Mobile since its creation, and the LX is no different. While the overall form factor of the Sidekick LX has not changed much from past iterations, the LX adds some nice new hardware: 3.2 inch high res 854×480 screen […]

The iPhone and Android devices were the obvious leaders at the well-organised and very informative Mobile Dev Camp in Amsterdam this week but it was very interesting to throw the MIDs and UMPCs in to get feedback from ‘mobile’ software developers. When developers talk ‘mobile’ they are invariably talking about mobile phones but when I put the 4-segment diagram up on the board (right), there were a lot of questions and lot of interaction. For most, it brought home the fact that ‘mobile’ goes way beyond the phone. I also […]

This morning I received the UMID Mbook, a tiny, clamshell ultra mobile PC that everyone seems to be interested in. My opinion is that this is one of the best mobile/microblogging devices there is (and I include all smartphones) and that its a stylish, flexible ultra mobile PC of the sort that many of us wanted to see from day 1. That means, its POCKETABLE and it has a KEYBOARD! The unboxing video is below. There’s a gallery to view and the specifications (and some hands-on review links) are in […]

jkOnTheRun have relayed some rumors from the OQOTalk forum that there are problems over at OQO. The rumors have been around for a while and we even contacted OQO about them a few weeks ago but at the moment there’s nothing much that we can be sure of. The official line from OQO was that the OQO 02/e2 was no longer being produced and that the production line was being re-tooled for the OQO 2+. We also found out that the UK-based global sales manager is no longer with the […]

Before I sent the VAIO P [Portal page][review] back to its home I dropped the beta of Windows 7 on it to see how it would handle the upcoming operating system. As you may have heard around the web, Windows 7 seems to be a bit more snappy than Vista, making it feel more like XP while keeping the nice new features. You may have read in the performance section of the VAIO P review that turning on Aero in Vista brought some very visible sluggishness; well I can’t say […]
