There’s a lot of talk about Android-enabled devices out there but in reality, we’re still in the position where there’s only one or two devices available. The NYTimes adds more fuel to the fire by sharing some confidential information about another Android phone and, more interestingly, an Android-based ‘tablet pc’ that will come from T-Mobile. Turning the tables on you this morning, I’m trying to find out what CPU/chipset Samsung are using in the Mondi. There’s a snippet of a hint in some news from 2008 but that’s all i’ve got right now. There must be someone at CTIA that knows, surely!

I spent a few hours researching and pulling together information on the SmartQ5 this morning and feel more positive about it now than I did a few weeks ago. The SmartQ5 looks good and has an amazing price (local price in China approx $132.) It has a good screen size/resolution and with Ubuntu (ARM), an good supply of software. As a media/internet/e-book reader/photo browser/travel device, there’s definitely a lot of pocketable value there. Adobe and ARM had already announced that they would work together to bring Flash 10 to smartphone platforms through the OpenScreen project so the news this morning from Ti really just shows that the commitment is still there and that we should still be looking at the early 2010 timeframe for deployment. Adobe AIR is finding quite the success in the microblogging market where tools like Tweetdeck, Twhirl and Twibble make up some of the most commonly used AIR applications. Note: UX above is show sitting it its dock. In a surprising move, it appears that Sony is getting ready to unveil the newest model in the UX series [Portal page], which will include a mini-CD drive. While we thought that Sony was done with the UX series, they never gave any official discontinuation, and apparently for good reason. The aptly named VGN-UX491-MCD will remove the EDGE module to make way for a mini-CD drive which will accept 8cm ‘mini-CDs’. The unit is identical to the UX490 in all ways […]

Looking like a set-play organised by Clearwire to promote WiMax is the official Samsung announcement of the Samsung Mondi Mobile Internet Device. The Mondi is the SWD-M100 device that we’ve reported on a few times.
