This little baby is near perfect for moblogging. It’s lightweight and can handle most tasks well. Its your typical UMPC all-rounder but as always, there are some issues. Screen brightness is at the top of the issues list. While the resolution is high and sharp, the brightness can be a problem. A glossy screen adds to the problem when you’re out and about. Secondly, the lack of 3G highlights that tethering over Bluetooth is never as easy as it should be. I had to re-configure the BT dial-up-netoworking connection twice […]

As the Smart Q7 doesn’t look like its going to turn up today, (expected tomorrow) I thought i’d relocate for a few hours. I’ve taken the Fujitsu Loox on a little tour and right now I’m sitting in the park.. More details in my scrapbook website. Gone Mobile Blogging… Watch and Communicate | Chippy’s HiBlue Lab.

Finally we’ve got a bit of sun here in Bonn so it’s time to get out with the devices for some mobile blogging. I’ll be jumping on my bike to find a suitable place to work. Not too crowded, not too sunny. I’m thinking that the Rhine, south of Bonn might be good. First though, I need to decide on what device to take and to do that, I need to write down exactly what I want to achieve. Work. Full keyboard, 7” or greater screen. Bright. Location. Tracking, occasional […]

I did some analysis of a German price comparison engine today and I was able to knock-up the following graph which shows how screen sizes have moved up way beyond the original 7 inch netbook idea. Compared to the original netbook concept, most are now big, heavy and outside what I would consider for ultra mobility usage. Germany is one of the leading countries for netbook sales and in my opinion represents what’s happening across Europe. The graph shows the distribution of screen sizes (rounded down to nearest inch) across […]

Ultimate-Netbook, a big accessory retailer based in Europe, has just announced a 10% discount code (Psst Use the offer code WEBultra mobile PC to get the discount) for our readers so now would probably be the best time to tell you about two Ultimate-Netbook products that I’ve had for a while. A universal power pack and a universal car mount. For anyone into mobile computing, these two products are well worth considering.

We had a brief lapse in WNRs over the last few weeks but hopefully everything will get back on track. Let’s see what’s been going on in the netbook space. How To Install Windows 7 On Almost Any Netbook — Gizmodo’s John Herman has put together a nice guide for squeezing Windows 7 onto a netbook. As the article mentions, XP is rather old and Windows 7 will get you a nice jump in the user experience area. Because it is still in the RC phase, it is free to […]

The much anticipated Eee T91 tablet netbook [Portal page] has just taken one step closer to seeing an official US release. The FCC has gotten their hands all over the computer and given us plenty of nice internal photos as well as the user manual. Looks like the FCC took down the page for the T91, possibly due to too much trafic, or on Asus’ request. As jkk points out, internal photos show that the SSD is 50mm, which should allow the use of Dell Mini 9-sized SSDs. We can […]

We’re not quite sure if we’re supposed to have this PDF but it’s just landed in our lap and we don’t see any confidential markings so we might as well relay the info. It’s a slide set from an investor meeting from the Ultra Mobility group and it highlights a few interesting points about Moorestown and Medfield. It appears to be dated 05_2009 so it’s very recent.
