Following the much-blogged, much twittered news of Verizon launching their MiFi product last week, it’s now Sprint’s turn. There doesn’t seem to be a day plan, only a $60 5GB plan and a bundle which includes a phone. Availability is ‘June’. More details here. It’s no secret that Telefonica have already announced the Mifi 2352 HSPA version in Spain (under the Movistar brand) and I’m hearing ‘days’ rather than ‘weeks’ for availability which means I’ll probably be able to get hold of an unlocked version for testing. Can’t wait! “Among […]

A lot has happened since Intel launched the Moblin project nearly 2 years ago. The market for internet-connected consumer devices is maturing. Intel are pushing into the smartphone market and netbooks are now an established category of devices. Intel now regard Moblin as a ‘core competency’ (which is significant considering they don’t run it any more!) and consider themselves the 2nd biggest contributor to Linux on the planet. So reports FT today which is in itself significant and shows just how far the Moblin keyword has penetrated. According to FT, […]

One of Asus’ upcoming Eee PCs, the 1008HA, which Chippy and jkk got to check out at this year’s CeBIT, has seen a handful of reviews from across the web recently. Engadget rounded up several of them and they seem to be pretty positive. Eee 1008HA’s Portal page for full specs Eee 1008HA Gallery Let me refresh your 1008HA memory: We first heard about the 1008HA being referred to as the Eee ‘Shell’ PC. At CeBIT 2009 we got the first glimpses at the 1008HA and it was apparent that […]

This strikes me as tail-end marketing. Simply buy an MSI WInd netbook in the next 3 weeks (in Germany) and you can send a form in to receive one of 7 possible ‘presents’ including a grill and a grill-set. Are they shifting stock or trying to sell to the laggards? If it’s the latter then we could be seeing the end of the netbook-rush sooner than we think. Via Netbooknews.de

I’m very reluctant to be talking about Medfield. It’s the codename for the system-on-chip that Intel are working on for 2011. That’s the next step after Moorestown which is still at least half a year away. We’re still waiting for a bunch of promised Menlow-based devices a year after launch and two years after its first mention here on UMPCPortal so I’m not getting excited. Moorestown is planned for early 2010 and will push Intel further into the MID category and enable voice-enabled, large-format smartphones. LG have already made an […]

I haven’t been through this hands-on in detail yet but I wanted to highlight it ASAP to the readers here. TechRadar have had time with a pre-production version of the ASUS T91 convertible netbook. This is the netbook that a lot of ultra mobile PC fans are looking at. It’s lightweight, very small and has an 8.9 inch convertible 1024×600 touchscreen. The first thing I’m looking for on the report is battery life…. three hours and twenty minutes of video playback. I was expecting more considering that the Viliv S5 […]

Considering the SmartDevices Q7 isn’t a true ultra mobile PC and it’s going to be a relatively slow browsing device, it’s getting a lot of coverage on UMPCPortal this week.
