Sascha Pallenberg, long term co-podcaster over at MeetMobility launched a new website, netbooknews.com, while we were over in Taiwan a few weeks ago. The site aims to provide video overviews of netbooks and netbook-related technology and software and they’ve already posted a huge number of videos. The latest highlight is their Computex ‘best-of’ video which also includes a set of awards for the the best products and software at Computex 2009. You can view the new website and video here. Good luck to Sascha and the netbooknews team.

We’ve been slightly distracted by the X70 EX over the last week but next in line for some tender love and testing is the ViliV S5 Premium Air. The 32GB SSD version with the built-in 3G HSPA (high speed upload + download) modem. Where the Viliv S5 with HDD was good, the SSD is even better. The change to SSD is very noticeable and if you an stretch to finding the extra $50, we thoroughly recommend it not just for speed but for additional ruggedness too. Built-in 3G is a […]

This week has been mad. I’ve been following up all the news and contacts from Computex, written the full review of the X70, done some testing with the S5 Premium Air, done the live Q&A session with the X70 and a podcast. All with a big fat cold and bunged up nose that you’ll hear on my broadcasts. And then Archos goes and lights up the segment by announcing a 9 inch 16mm 800gm Windows 7 tablet. This has been on one of the busiest UMPCs weeks ever in the […]

Podcast 29 is now available.
58 minutes of detailed discussion about Computex 2009. Many people called it ARM’s Computex but was it all just PR? Sasha, JKK and I talk about that, how Intel and Moorestown will compete in the same space and cover the main UMPC and netbook news.

Charbax has posted a very good video of a working Archos 9. A couple of points to highlight are the optical mouse and the width which would create a heavy lever-effect when holding in one hand; a problem i experienced with Pepperpad 3 a few years ago. I’m also surprised that there is no HDMI output. Via Archosfans and @charbax

Jkk has tons of video coverage of the now finished Computex 2009. Here he has an interesting 17 minute video of a Q&A with Intel’s General Manager of the Ultra Mobility Group, Anand Chandrasekher. Jkk also rounded up a list of all the people in attendance, as follows: Our very own Steve ‘Chippy’ Paine Joanna from LAPTOP Johannes from NewGadgets.de Frank from SomewhatFrank Charbax from TechVideoBlog.com JKK from jkkmobile.com (working the camera) An interesting watch if you want to understand how Intel is handling the upcoming Moorestown platform and have a […]

A few days ago I showed you how the new EB MID reference design has been updated from the one that we saw in 2007. Up until this point I had only seen renders of the device, but it looks like they were showing it off at Computex, and jkk got some hands-on time with it. Have a look at the video below. The reference device has a capacitive touchscreen and a UI that looks like it will be well optimized for touch use once it is completed. Let me […]
