There have been plenty of rumors flying around as of late that try to implicate Verizon readying LTE by 2010 for the elusive, and frequently rumored, Apple web tablet (let’s call it the AWT for short). However I find it extremely hard to believe that these two things have any correlation, and in fact feel that it makes much more sense for the AWT to not have any sort of cellular data connection whatsoever. Here’s why: Apple has sold 21.17 million iPhones as of the end of Q2 2009 (that […]

There are two ways to look at the Samsung Mondi, the oversized slider-style PocketPC with built-in WiMax. Either you wonder why Samsung didn’t go all the way with the convergence theme by adding in the cellular voice capability or you look at it as a flag-bearer in the Smartphone and MID market. One of the first devices that promotes the use of internet based services for all your communications and a real benchmark for pricing and capability.

Another gem from the geniuses at www.micropctalk.com. MPCT forum user fiveseven808 has created a wearable computer setup using a Sony VAIO UX380 [Portal page] to power the whole thing. Fiveseven808 was kind enough to give me a good run down of the setup and some images as well. Components include: Main system: Battery geek: BG 14-18-60External battery (60wh) Sony UX380N VGA/TV/LAN Dongle Motorola iDen i425 (for next-to-nothing (but half dial up speed) always-on internet access) Input/Output: Modified MyVu Crystal Head Mounted Display Bluetooth enabled cellphone (text and mouse input) Bluetooth […]

My first impressions from this review are ‘oh crap.’ The most important element (in my mind) has turned out to be sub-par. The keyboard. “…as I started tapping away an e-mail, I was immediately disappointed; the keys are too flushed into the phone’s hardware, making them difficult to press.” A few more thoughts: Does it really do voice? Just what does this mean: “The WiMax connectivity made browsing the Web, fortunately, a zippy experience… pages like ESPN.com or CNN.com load correctly—a pleasure compared with other popular phones, including Apple’s iPhone […]

Sony, along with others such as Samsung, was one of the early companies that jumped into the idea of the ultra mobile PC with some great devices. For a company that hesitated to jump on the netbook bandwagon, Sony was surprisingly passionate in their early ultra mobile PC work, updating their Sony VAIO UX series on a nearly bi-yearly basis. Though the UX series never made it to the big-leagues (read: widespread consumer awareness) it apparently made some friends in Hollywood. Over the years, the Sony VAIO UX series has […]
